Should have bought a Kenmore. Last one was trouble free for 15 years before we did the remodel and wanted a cool front loader. $800.00 for new motor & control unit and now it’s shutting off without finishing the cycle. The wife gives it @10 mins and hits the start button and it takes off again.

That should just about end all Whirlpool American jobs. They just closed their manufacturing facility in Indiana(I think that is where it was?) a few months back.
We have a Duet too and haven’t had a single problem with it in the 5 years we’ve had it. I keep wondering if those of us with good ones got the ones made in the USA and the not so good ones were Mexican made?
BTW the Kenmore is made by Whirlpool.
Got another response from someone that said they had a duet too w/reference to where it was made. I bet mine was made in the US and the employees were just a little disgruntled 4 years ago, now they are pissed.

From my personal experience as a small businessman and owner of a plumbing company. We are off 63% over last year for gross sales.
As a direct result of this sour business climate I have had to cut cost, layoff and cross utilize workers. Thank God I’m not a union shop.
It’s still painful to let a worker go. I’m a worker too, and close to the chopping block. After 21 years in business I’m fighting to keep it afloat.
I was hoping to retire in the next couple years and turning this over to my top guy. Looks doubtful, maybe things will pick up after November.
We bought a Kenmore Washer and Dryer back in 1988 when we bought our first house. Both survived three moves and six months in storage. The dryer finally gave up the ghost a few years ago, and we replaced it with a Piece of Excrement Whirlpool whose heating core went out in under two years. After the service call etc we would have been better off buying a new dryer (I could not convince my wife of this). The washer is still hanging in, and we will continue to use it until it dies.
I hate having to replace my older appliances. The stuff made 20 years ago is so much better quality than what I can get now days. I still have my 16 year old mower, and I plan to fix it even though we bought a replacement mower. I just don’t think the replacement is going to last very long.
Agreed. Bought our first washer and dryer back in 1986 and now purchased new ones a couple weeks ago. Hubby is reluctant to hook the new ones up because the old ones are still going strong. Our lawnmower is about 20 years old. Hubby’s car is a 1984 model. Quality workmanship is hard to find and it’s handy that hubby can fix almost anything mechanical.
I did my part, a couple of weeks ago I bought Whirlpool washer, dryer kitchen stove and microwave.
