Obama to pledge sweeping climate change legislation
Washington Post ^ | June 2, 2010 | By Michael D. Shear

PITTSBURGH -- President Obama on Wednesday will promise to find the votes for comprehensive climate change legislation in the "coming months," saying the case for putting a price on the nation's addiction to carbon has been made clear by the environmental catastrophe unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico.

In excerpts of a speech at Carnegie Mellon University released by the White House, the president plans to repeat his intentions to roll back billions of dollars in tax breaks on big oil companies, tap natural gas reserves as an alternative to oil, and increase reliance on nuclear power.

The president will acknowledge that he does not yet have enough support in Congress for his clean-energy vision. But in the wake of the oil spill, Obama promises to personally press for passage this year of a bipartisan framework pending in the Senate.

"I will make the case for a clean-energy future wherever I can, and I will work with anyone from either party to get this done. But we will get this done," he says in the excerpts. "The next generation will not be held hostage to energy sources from the last century."

I already told Arlen Specter not to let the door of the Senate hit him on his way out, and that Toomey would have my vote this Fall specifically because of Specter’s support for cap and trade. Same goes for Sestak, of course; Toomey 2010!

Same for Paul Kanjorski, who voted for cap and trade. Lou Barletta has my vote this Fall.

Has he said HOW he is going to change the climate?

I want him under oath, on record saying EXACTLY how this will work to affect the climate. And what is the recourse if the climate is unaffected?

There goes the US as a world power. Our enemies laugh as we shoot ourselves in the foot, or other places.

Thanks, socialist Rats.

Mark Levin called it last night... a soft tyranny.

The people don’t want to bail out the banks... Bail away!
The people don’t want the healthcare bill... Pass it!
The people want immigrantion reform... Ignore them!

Let’s put in a bunch of windmills so we can grind up all the birds the oil didn’t smother.

The 50% of boobs in this country who voted Obama and his party into power will cheer right up to the point where they wonder why gas suddenly costs ten bucks a gallon.

what about the very REAL problem of the oil spill in the Gulf Barry?

Guaranteed he will use the BP spill to somehow "justify" his cap & trade oil tax garbage.

"The next generation will not be held hostage to energy sources from the last century."

Instead, they'll be held hostage to energy sources from the 12th Century.
