US considers sending carrier to Korea
Washington Post ^

U.S. defense officials say they may deploy the massive aircraft carrier USS George Washington off the Korean Peninsula in the Yellow Sea, where North Korea allegedly sank a South Korean warship.

The deployment would be a show of force by the U.S., which has vowed to protect South Korea and is seeking to blunt aggression from North Korea. An international investigation last month blamed North Korea for torpedoing the Cheonan warship in March, killing 46 sailors.

U.S. officials, who spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, said Wednesday that a final decision on deployment of the nuclear-powered carrier was likely by the end of the week.

Not your run-of-the-mill regularly scheduled deployment. Reminscent of when President Clinton sent the Nimitz CAG through the Straits of Taiwan in December of 1995 . . . Wonder if ole' Kim would be stupid enough to attempt another military provacation with the USS Washington right off her shore?

And this will let China know that America can project power right under their noses and that they can do nothing but look on

“The deployment would be a show of force by the U.S.,”

American foreign policy has become a minefield of confusion, contradictions, missteps, half measures and mixed messages. If the world isn’t at war by 2012, it will be a miracle.

Some liberal idiot in the local rag said that this is all war mongering because what sunk the SK vessel was a Korean War leftover floating mine.... If that were the case, that would have been the storyline from the get go.

U.S. officials, who spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly,

But they were authorized to discuss the mater with the reporter.

I thought NK was the reason for home porting a carrier in Yokosuka.

Does anyone think it is a coincidence that all these things are happening when:
1. Obama is considered to have reached the halfway point in his administration
2. No one thinks he will win a second term
3. His appointees are in place and all the Bush people gone

Folks, me thinks that the locals are going to get a little froggy, The local town marshal has had too much to drink and is passed out in the corner.

What do you think all the young spit shooters are going to do at the village square dance with alcohol and not law man to up hold the peace.

Folks, it is going to be a riot. You have just seen the opening move of the out of town bully spitting on someone’s boots.

That spot is far too shallow for the carrier I think, but the general area would send a strong message. As a matter of fact we should have at least 2 in the Japan-Korea area.

Anyone know how many capital ships we have up there?

If things break out in Korea I think Chinas moves into the Spratleys, Russia moves on Georgia and the middle east might as well blow up again.

It would look like WW3 is breaking out.

I’ve actually been wondering IF they want to have war break out somewhere, because they are having severe difficulty creating jobs.
