A few months ago, I pointed out that Gordon Brown seemed to have ended a convention that whatever hostile noises towards Israel came out of the Foreign Office, Downing Street was different. British prime ministers tended to sympathise with the Israelis, whether out of genuine regard or in the interest of the special relationship with Washington.
Well, Washington has played its traditional role since the seizure of the Gaza flotilla on Monday, holding off from direct criticism and watering down the inevitable UN Security Council resolution. Not so our new prime minister David Cameron, who went further than Mr Brown did last year with a quite serious diplomatic assault at PMQs.
Completely unacceptable, he called the attack on the flotilla. William Hague joined in later, saying he deplored the loss of life, for which he clearly held Israel responsible, and adding that: There is real, understandable and justified anger at the events which have unfolded.
Someone will probably put me right, but has the British government ever presented such a united face against Israel before? It is a sign of how far Israel has sunk in public opinion; it is also a sign of the new Conservative Party too, I think. I wonder what Lord Tebbit has to say.

The Jews are the canaries in the mines. It is becoming more and more acceptable to be openly hostile towards them.
He’s still smarting over the King Dvid Hotel blast when the brits choese to turn over al their little forts and weaponry to the local arab miscreants. Too bad Britain, like our American government was once so great, and now hampered by limpwristed fools.
