Video: Ron Paul denounces Israel’s flotilla raid, of course

No surprise here. Remember when he called Operation Cast Lead, which was Israel’s response to thousands of Hamas rocket firings, a case of “preemptive war”?

America’s Greatest Patriot wants you to believe he’s a study in non-interventionist neutrality, with his knocks on Israel a mere function of the fact that we continue to prop them up with foreign aid. Because the U.S. is kinda sorta responsible for their behavior, goes the logic, they’re fair game for criticism.

Why he’d want to maintain a posture of neutrality between Israel and an eliminationist outfit like Hamas, I have no idea, but lay that aside.

Amoral neutrality doesn’t excuse his use of propaganda — as impartial news sources have noted, Gaza isn’t “starving” — nor does it explain his relentless attempts over the past several years to minimize the threat from Iranian nuclear weapons.

They are a group of paid traitors and heretics for hire who believe that singular Talmudic ruling, imposed but Roman swords, supercedes God’s promises.

People claiming to be “Anti-Zionist” are really just Anti-Semitic. That is just an old anti-Semitic copout....”I’m anti-Zionist”

Ron Paul unfortunately has lost my support. I am tired of anti-Semitism....and I am tired of anyone trying to justify Holocaust II

This would be the non-interventionist, Ron Paul, weighing in. Still to be heard from on the "true conservative" side, Abu Buchanan.

Jewishness and Zionism are not the same thing. Some Jews present and past are anti-Zionist. I don’t share that view, but anti-Zionism alone hardly makes anyone anti-Semitic.

As for Holocaust II, it seems that the utterly dishonest reporting of the Gaza blockade incident makes it clear that large segments of the press are trying to create a situation in which that, or something like it, will happen. I can hardly believe they are getting away with it.

I did find this from the American Thinker. It is something I had not read before, but is pretty consistent with what I have read in the past.

No, it’s not. Here is a link to several Orthodox Jewish organizations that are anti-Zionist: http://www.jewsnotzionists.org/organizations.htm

There are also many leftwing secular Jews who are anti-Zionist.

While Jewish identity doesn’t depend on the existence or nonexistence of modern Israel, Modern Israel,IMHO, should be treated as a valuable ally and recognized as vastly more civilized than its Muslim neighbors. This seems to be the exact opposite of the Obama Administration’s current Middle East policy. In fact, the Obama Administration strikes me as a clear and present danger to Israel and peace in the ME.

I’ve seen it. I was hoping you had something that RP had done or said. You can find fringe elements supporting almost any candidate, and if the candidate is seen as “anti-establishment” it brings all kinds of people out of the woodwork for all kinds of reasons.

Thanks for the article, though. It reminds me how much I dislike “Truthers”, etc.

Good grief! What a collection of loons supporting Ron Paul. It's an "American Thinker" article from November 23, 2007 ...

“Loons” is right. But then that God Hates Fags church supported Al Gore at one point and every other presidential candidate, including Reagan, has attracted support from “undesireables”.

“For me, Ron Paul is a lot like Pat Buchanan. A lot of what he says sounds right to me; the rest is pure, unadulterated crap.”

“You may if you like, but there are many Orthodox anti-Zionist Jews.”

Not a lot, but certainly some, and certainly with a defensible viewpoint (no Israel, until the Messiah).

I’ve never met a non-Jewish anti-zionist, however, who wasn’t really anti-semetic trying to disguish his or her true viewpoint -— I am not saying they don’t exist, however.

Pat B is clearly an anti-semite.

Ron Paul? Not sure. He is certainly only consistently isolationist when it comes to Israel.

Ron Paul is a Birchite who believes in the World Jewish Conspiracy.

Not so...he is anti-Zionist which is far from the same thing as antisemitic. Nevertheless, I think he is wrong about this. While I am pro-Zionist, charges of racism, antisemitism, etc. are all too often lightly cast about.

And he is anti-Zionist because . . . ?

I wish RP would figure out that abstract principles are useful, but that you also have to have a serious, practical program for advancing them. Leaving Israel to the mercy of the Muslims, which is the actual policy of Obamalini, cannot be taken seriously as foreign policy and will lead to disaster.

"Abstract principles" have nothing to do with it. That is merely the excuse. Why does his "neutrality" and "noninterventionism" always favor Israel's enemies?

Ron Paul is a Rushdoonian Birchite. He believes Israel is the (lehavdil) "vatican" of the "new world order."

Jewishness and Zionism are not the same thing. Some Jews present and past are anti-Zionist. I don’t share that view, but anti-Zionism alone hardly makes anyone anti-Semitic.

Orthodox Jewish anti-Zionism and anti-Semitic anti-Zionism are two completely different animals, and it is dishonest to use the former to excuse the latter.

All Charedim are "anti-Zionist" to an extent because Zionism began as a secular, western, nationalist movement inspired by other nineteenth century European nationalisms (the Italian Risorgimento) was a particular inspiration). It was basically a Hebrew-speaking, Jewish version of (lehavdil) Irish Republicanism (also a secular, socialist movement). It should be noted, however, that many of Herzl's initial supporters were Orthodox Jews from Eastern Europe.

The initial goal of Herzl (who was not religious) was, in the words of the late Rabbi Me'ir Kahana' (zt"l; Hy"d) a "Hebrew-speaking Portugal." Then after 1905 the movement suffered an influx of radical socialists who basically came to dominate the Zionist movement until Begin was elected PM in 1977. These socialist Zionists--like the anti-Semites--associated the Jewish religion with parasitism and "alienation from the soil." In order to become a normal nation--to once again toil for a living and farm--religion would have to be discarded. Apparently none of these socialist Zionists had ever picked up a TaNa"KH, because there were plenty of Jewish toilers and farmers, and the Jewish religion didn't hinder them one bit (in fact, Judaism regulates farming and toil).

While most Charedim today are pro-Israel (if for no other reason than that it is the Land of Israel and Jews live there), they are still technically "anti-Zionist." Satmar sticks out because they still attack Zionism openly and condemn Israel's secular government. But Neturei Karta' are nutballs--even Satmar condemns them.

Anti-Semites oppose Zionism because a Jewish State in the Land of Israel is going to be world headquarters of the Jewish World Conspiracy and the capital of the Jewish-governed world. All anti-Zionist Orthodox Jews--even Neturei Karta'--are in favor of the Jewish Messiah ultimately ruling the world from 'Eretz Yisra'el. But anti-Semites regard the Messiah as a sinister figure.

Ron Paul is among this fringe of John Birchers and Rushdoonyites who oppose "Zionism" because they oppose "Jewish world rule" and see Jews and Judaism as the ultimate cause of all the evils in the world. Please do not compare Ron Paul to any anti-Zionist Orthodox Jew.

I don’t think RP is anti-Semitic in the least. Where I believe he gets himself into trouble is that he has a non-interventionist foreign policy vision, but no real idea of how to get from here to there responsibly. We would doubtless have been better off with a foreign policy that had consistently followed the principles in Washington’s Farewell Address, but those principles haven’t been followed for over 100 years, and there are a number of conflicts that need to be defused or resolved before we can respnsibly reduce our intervention. The ME is a good example. If we simply, in figurative terms, pack up and go home there would probably be a horrible all-out war. What is needed in every area of our foreign policy is a plan for reducing our intervention (and aid) in as many parts of the world as possible. But it may well be that for the foreseeable future we will have no alternative but to be aggressively engaged in the ME on the side of Israel if we want peace there. One of many things that worry me about the current administration is that the Muslims are probably coming to believe that Obama won’t really defend Israel.
