N. Korea warns of 'toughest retaliation' over U.N. handling of ship sinking
By Sam Kim
SEOUL, June 4 (Yonhap) -- North Korea urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Friday to call for a new investigation into the sinking of a South Korean warship, warning of "the toughest retaliation" if punishment against Pyongyang is discussed.
The North's unidentified foreign ministry spokesman told the official Korean Central News Agency that Pyongyang's response would be similar to those taken in the past, but did not elaborate.
Analysts have warned that North Korea may conduct a third nuclear test if South Korea and the U.S. ratchet up pressure on the communist state over the March 26 sinking that killed 46 seamen.
North Korea has denied its role in the sinking and called the outcome of a South Korea-led multinational investigation into the incident "a sheer fabrication." The probe, which has yet to be fully acknowledged by China and Russia, two of the five veto-wielding UNSC members, concluded that a North Korean submarined sneaked across the Yellow Sea border and torpedoed the 1,200-ton corvette Cheonan.

P!
We have to add Myanmar to the list of crazy states:
Jim Webb, a high-profile US senator who has been calling for American re-engagement with Asia, has cancelled a trip to Burma citing fresh concerns that the generals who run the country are trying to develop nuclear capability.
News reports published today contain new allegations regarding the possibility that the Burmese government has been working in conjunction with North Korea to develop a nuclear programme. From the initial accounts, a defecting officer from the Burmese military claims direct knowledge of such plans, and reportedly has furnished documents to corroborate his claims, Mr Webb said on Thursday after the last-minute cancellation of his two-day trip.

That would be what, firing more missiles into the sea and/or conducting another nuclear test? Meh.
I’ll bet Pyongyang Patty was in rare form giving out this announcement.
But seriously, North Korea reminds me of the school bully who's really not that tough, but gets a reputation as a tough guy by running his mouth constantly and occasionally sneaking up and sucker punching someone, then quickly running away. I would love to see some country like us or South Korea call their bluff for once. Fly in and sink half the North Korea navy, then dare them to respond. I have a feeling they would quickly go to the negotiating table or run crying to hide behind big daddy China.
Well, they’ve finally done it now at least. Interesting to see if NK will do anything to reply...
(URGENT) Lee says S. Korea has referred N. Korea’s sinking of warship to U.N. Security Council

Perhaps the South Koreans folded because one of their generals was found to have been a spy for North Korea. Apparently he provided the North with all the defense plans in the event of an attack by North Korea. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2527415/posts)
“According to Chosun Ilbo, OP5027, warplan in the event of full-scale war against N. Korea was leaked to a N. Korean agent. “
What do you do when such treachery is discovered? Make new plans? That probably takes time.
As long as they don't conduct it over Seoul or Tokyo, it's bad, but not so very bad.
Bump.
