Hardly anyone even knows there are four stanzas in the National Anthem, but believe it or not, I learned all of them in NYC public school in the 60s-70s.
We sang the first verse every day before class began, and the first and fourth verses every week at assembly.
Can you believe THAT? It’s difficult to imagine such a thing happening today, isn’t it?
