Harry Reid’s Push To Nationalize ALL Cop/Firemen Unions
Publius Forum ^ | 6/2/10 | Warner Todd Huston

Posted on 06/07/2010 4:58:34 AM PDT by Track9

Senate Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid is quietly trying to nationalize rules governing every police, fire and first responder union in the nation. Through the benignly named Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act (H.R.413) Reid wants all first responders represented by collective bargaining rules emanating from Washington D.C. Naturally he thinks that it is necessary as a matter of national security.

Reid is pushing this monstrosity as a major sop to his union supporters who will greatly benefit from nationalized rules for police and fire unions. This plan would replace with federal rules all state laws on collective bargaining between state and local governments and their first responder unions and would greatly empower unions to dictate pay scales and benefits on a national level.

Imagine the loss of control that local governments will face when first responder unions no longer have to deal with local rules and laws but can force a federal one-size-fits-all style rule on all local governments. Local governments will no longer be able to determine pay scales and benefits and will lose control of their own ability to budget. Reid’s plan will also completely remove the ability of voters to have any say in local matters as a top down control from Washington will rule the day where it concerns local police, fire and other first responders.

Also remember, if a local government wants to fire a policeman or fireman they now have to deal with local laws and home-based unions. If H.R.413 passes no local government will be able to fire a cop or fireman without appealing to the federal government, a source far, far removed from the local area and a source completely unfamiliar with the needs and interests of that local area.

And there you have it, Obama's civilian army. This way they would all be beholden to the feds instead of the citizenry. My parents always told me growing up, that unions led to nothing but evil, corruption and eventually communism. How right they were. The states must enact legislation exempting themselves from this and start disbanding public employee unions immediately if this goes through.

Giving collective bargaining rights to civil servants is economic and civil suicide. Could you imagine being a Mayor and sitting across the table negotiating with a union who could shut down all police, fire and ambulances with the snap of a finger?

It’s not enough for Harry Reid to see what is happening in California, Chicago, New York, Greece, Spain, etc. This is not ignorance Harry suffers from, it is stupidity.

How right you are. If there is any silver lining to desperate dems looking for votes, it will be to so piss off the average citizen that states rights and local control will be the first thing on their minds come November.

I wonder if this is what it was like in pre-war National Socialist Germany.

They gradually Nationalized each segment of Society until the National Socialist Controlled the right to LIVE. (oops that has already been done)

As a Conservative I have almost a Natural respect for all those serving in the uniform of a Policeman or Firefighter, who every day are out there putting their lives on the line for us, and making us feel more secure. As I tell my little boy, they are the real life Super Heroes who will come to our aid when we are in trouble.

But the natural respect would quickly turn into a natural suspicion if ever they are sworn into a National Union. God help us if this happens.

I’m a little confused. The article lists sponsors in the House of Representatives, where the bill must originate, but talks about Reid, who is a Senator, pushing it. No mention of Pelosi?

This is so bad it’s hard to imagine. Just on the economic side, it would have Washington setting state and local costs throughout the nation. If public responders first, why not teachers next? It would be for the children. Remember, heavily unionized education is the major cost of most towns.

So what does a National Police Force look like? Just ask Sophie Scholl.

If you have not seen this true story movie you should. It may be our future.

The trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XM5A4ETW_Io

Sophie Scholl was arrested and then executed by guillotine by the Third Reich for distributing anti-Nazi leaflets at her college campus. For this she was beheaded along with several of the other brave young God fearing people of the “White Rose”, an underground Nazi resistance movement.

Harry lived his entire putrid life in Searchlight, Nevada.

Prior to entering politics Harry ran a variety store there selling pornography and condoms to fellow wankers.

Which reminds me...where is Hollywood? They have been very quiet for a long time now. What could have happened to Babs and the rest that were to leave the country when Bush was Pres. Just wondering.

But shouldn’t every police/fire department have the right to game the rules so that every member retires making more than they ever earned on the job? Doesn’t every state deserve the right to be driven to bankruptcy by our “public servants”?
