GM - Government Morons, (I know, redundant).

There is no way I’d buy a GM, and I used to love them. I have an old Corvette and love the history of GM. Rick Wagoner presided over the death of GM.

No harm to us, as we buy American: Ford.

Government Motors doesn’t do it for us, and they weren’t even considered in the purchase of her new Explorer.

GM plans to disable the washer fluid heating module and will pay owners/leasers $100 for losing the feature.

I've never heard of such nonsense. They must mean $100 toward your next purchase/lease.

Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP. Mfr’s Report Date: JUN 04, 2010

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 10V240000 N/A
NHTSA Action Number: N/A

Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Number of Units Affected: 1365070
Summary: GM is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 vehicles equipped with a heated washer fluid system (HWFS). A recall was implemented in 2008 to add a fuse to the control circuit harness to address the potential consequences of a printed circuit board electrical short.

However, there have been new reports of thermal incidents on HWFS modules after this improvement was installed. These incidents resulted from a new failure mode attributed to the device’s thermal protection feature. The significance varies from minor distortion to considerable melting of the plastic around the HWFS fluid chamber.

Consequence: It is possible for the heated washer module to ignite and a fire may occur.

Remedy: Dealers will permanently disable and remove the heated washer fluid module. An updated page for the owner manual will be provided and inserted in the owner manual to document that the feature has been permanently disabled and removed from the vehicle. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before June 14, 2010. Owners may contact Buick at 1-866-608-8080, Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339, Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, Saturn at 1-800-972-8876, GMC at 1-866-996-9463 and Hummer at 1-800-732-5493 or at the owner center at WWW.GMOWNERCENTER.COM.

Notes: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .

If you lived up north, you might not be scoffing so much. I visited my Brother-in-law in Denver over the winter, and my washer fluid tank froze. I couldn’t clear the windshield, so driving was hazardous, and when I first tried to use the washer, the pump failed due to the ice. Had I been able to heat it first, I wouldn’t have had problems.

I wanna say in the past it has been some sort of credit. (equivalent to what the feature was worth) Bunch of people I know had it disabled because it didn’t work right. I’ll have to look into it.

One would think that strategic placement of the washer fluid tank (oh I don't know, maybe under the hood, closer to the FREEKING HOT ENGINE) would preclude the need to worry about the washer fluid freezing.

Yes, sadly. And it’s inching ever closer, everyday. The worst and most difficult thing for most people to grasp is that what TPTB are doing is akin to patching and painting over a house that is termite ridden, and make no mistake, THEY are the termites.

So, we see the house shaking (See 1000pt stock drop), and get worried, but they paint over it (buy up stoks, feed the fat finger lie), and we wipe our forheads and say “phew, thank you, I was scared, take more control of our lives please, that almost hurt.” All the while, they are feeding on our foundations and oneday the whole thing, quite unexpectedly to most, will come crashing down.

I know we Freepers, for the most part get it, but when there is dissention even here, it shows just how systemic the misinformation is!
