The British-based Reuters news agency has been stung for the second time by charges that it edited politically sensitive photos in a way that casts Israel in a bad light. But this time Reuters claims it wasnt at fault.
The news agency reacted to questions raised by an American blogger who showed that Reuters' photo service edited out knives and blood traces from pictures taken aboard the activist ship Mavi Marmara during a clash with Israeli commandos last week. Nine people were killed and scores were injured in the clash.
The pictures of the fight were released by IHH, the Turkish-based group that sponsored the six-ship fleet that tried to break Israel's blockade of Gaza.
In one photo, an Israeli commando is shown lying on the deck of the ship, surrounded by activists. The uncut photo released by IHH shows the hand of an unidentified activist holding a knife. But in the Reuters photo, the hand is visible but the knife has been edited out.
The blog Little Green Footballs challenged Reuters' editing of the photo.

Whattaya’ expect from a Nazi outfit?
FAKE, but accurate, according to Reuters...
Let me guess...beach front property with red sand.
Of course it was "political." Reuters must think the whole U.S. is blind.
‘Just taking lessons from the Liar of the US—only applying it to photography.
Knife? What knife? I don’t see any stinkin’ knife.
CBS copyrighted that.
The Soviets did this. The Red Chinese did this. The Cuban Communists did this. The North Vietnamese did this. The Nazis even engaged in photomanipulation for propaganda purposes.
The Nazis used the cropped image of Churchill to suggest he was a gangster criminal.
That book only goes so far. There is another book that came out earlier in the decade and has coverage of the Cuban Communists, Red Chinese Communists, and Vietnamese Communists. You know, the groups that the Left say were so much better than the Soviets....
And it’s hardly the first time they’ve been caught manipulating (or staging) photos from the Middle East. Recall the photoshopped smoke plumes from Israeli missile strikes. Looked like a Toho Godilla film after they got through with it.
I thought he had turned to siding with the Islamists against someone last year (or maybe earlier this year).
The editors have aichmophobia?
this is more than the second time.
“If its Reuters, its wrong.”

No knives, they didn't have knives, just look at the pictures.
No. Reuters just doesn’t approve of knives. They could be used to hurt somebody, or justify the use of a gun in self-defense.
And I think it was one of their French cameramen who created the fictional “murder” of the young Palestinian boy who was killed as he cowered with his father during an Israeli fire fight.
