Russia has agreed to supply Syria with combat aircraft and other defense equipment, saying a previous sale was legitimate. Citing remarks by Mikahil Dmitriyev, the head of Russia's federal service of military and technical cooperation, the state-run ITAR Tass news agency said Moscow's sale concerned MiG-29 fighter jets, Pantasir short-range defense systems and armored vehicles.
Details, including the price and terms of the deal, weren't disclosed.
Bonding ties between Syria and Russia have recently unnerved Israel, particularly because of Damascus' close relations Iran, considered a sponsor of international terrorism.
Even so, military analysts in Israel have been quick to ease the nation's security concerns over the latest sale saying the combat aircraft in question posed little, if not any threat to the Jewish state because they lacked in offensive capabilities.
Earlier this year, Moscow confirmed it was supplying Syria with MiG-31 combat aircraft under a deal signed in 2007 for the provision of at least four such aircraft. At the time, the Russian daily Kommersant reported that the $1 billion deal also included the sale of an undisclosed number of MiG-29s.
"They are being sold abroad for the first time and are similar in their technical specifications to the MiG-35 model Russia is now offering India," the daily had reported.

another ‘smashing’ victory in the making for the Israeli
Army and Air Force
They will be no match against the F-35 the Israelis are planning to purchase
Interesting that the deal involves the MiG-29 and not the Sukhoi Flanker series (27/30/etc).
Then why would Syria want them? Why would anyone want them?
And where is Syria getting the funds to buy these weapons?
I can answer the last question. They are probably getting their money from Iran.
the IAF should have had them yesterday , they need them now
There was a lot of negotation of the F-35 source code. It looks like the solved this major sticking point.
They're no match for the F-15s and F-16s (with modified electronics) the Israelis currently have. ...especially with Israel's far superior pilots at the controls.
These are fighters so they can have extra fuel tanks and air-to-air missiles. They would be the escorts for Russian-made fighter/bombers in any attack on Israel or in support of Hamas or Hezbullah.
Think like the enemy and it all makes sense.
Besides, Moscow needs the cash. Crooks gotta eat and pay for dachas.
You are absolutely correct. Thanks for pointing it out
They will be no match against the F-35 the Israelis are planning to purchase
If they are allowed to purchase them, when will they be delivered and operational?
