There are two earlier threads on this from about three hours ago.
Watch for two trolls, one just signed on today.
Both of them denigrate the brave girl.
We should cheer her for her bravery, and give thanks that she is safe.
“We should cheer her for her bravery, and give thanks that she is safe.”
Personally, I think endeavors like the one this 16 year old undertook are foolhardy and irresponsible. First of all, they serve no earthly purpose other than to satisfy some kind of inner competitiveness these reckless people contain. Secondly, when things go awry, as in this case, the expense of a rescue makes it look all the more like an unnecessary venture. Certainly I am glad she is safe, but why would the parents of a 16 year old allow her to make this solo journey? They must be insane.
In this case, bravery does not equal wisdom. This was a foolhardy decision by all involved (and yes, I'd have said this even if she had made it). And yes, I am very glad a young life with all before it was not lost on the high seas.
I’m glad she is safe but other posters are right—her family should pay the search and rescue bills resulting from this.
"I wish to preach, not the doctrine of ignoble ease, but the doctrine of the strenuous life, the life of toil and effort, of labor and strife; to preach that highest form of success which comes, not to the man who desires mere easy peace, but to the man who does not shrink from danger, from hardship, or from bitter toil, and who out of these wins the splendid ultimate triumph." - "The Strenuous Life" by Theodore Roosevelt
I do cheer for her bravery and deride her stupidity and sneer at the ignorance of her parents.
Who in their right mind would let their 16 year old daughter sail around the world unescorted?
These parents should be charged with neglect and endangerment.
