It happens, but I have not seen it happen in a long time, perhaps twenty years. Tangled chutes yes.

Interesting that this is the same track where, on June 21, 2008, Scott Kalitta was killed; his chutes only partially deployed.

Yeah, I recall seeing events on the TV at this track. If memory serves, it does have a short runoff, so after Kalitta was killed they installed netting of the type that is used for fighter jets, and they explained that they cannot extend the strip because of property regulations and prohibitions in local ordinances.

That's why I think they and all others will likely end up going to the 1000 ft rule.
