The “Stupid Party” may yet find a way to blow that, too.

I’m just south of Dayton and have been very disappointed with Boehner - sounds tough on Willie’s radio program but simply avoids the hard lifting. I’d rather see Mike Pence become the leader - America needs someone with “fire in the belly”!

It's too early to say with any certainty. No one really knows how much full-spectrum campaigning (from Labor Day to Election Day, with lots of money spent on advertising etc.) will affect public opinion. Also there are October surprise possibilities for both GOP and Dems.

I like crunching numbers. If all of the lucky breaks go the GOP way, we could gain as many as 80 seats in the House of Representatives. It's unlikely ... but the possibility exists. Far more likely is something in a 40-50 seat range. And if the lucky breaks all go against us, I could see the GOP gaining no more than 20-25 seats, possibly even less.

Never underestimate the possibility that a genuine PR disaster -- a Mark Foley type event, for example, or a Bush DUI type event, or a Jack Abramoff type event -- could happen at any time, and to either party. It could happen weeks, days, even hours before the election. It could be of any magnitude, from minor to major. The three events I mentioned were timed perfectly, to cause maximum damage to the GOP in the elections that followed.

As you can see, our good friends in the Democratic Party have become very adept at digging up this stuff, and then flinging it at us -- with flawless timing every time.

That's why we have to do thorough oppo research on our own candidates, as well as the Democrats' candidates. And it's why candidates like Sharron Angle and Linda McMahon worry me. This Alvin Greene fellow in South Carolina shows that it happens to both parties. This guy has a pending sex-related felony charge, and he's black.

I like the possibilities that the Rod Blagojevich trial offers. Lots of potential gold to be mined there, since the list of people who were interested in acquiring that Senate seat from Blago is rather long. And Blago himself could say anything.

Well, his speeches on the floor during HC, Cap ‘n Tax, etc., were wonderful.

Then again, having met the man, I must say I’m proud of him. Pence, too.

I know I have to laugh when I hear people talking about how the Republicans will repeal Healthcare and stop Cap and Trade.

The problem with predicting future events based on prior events is there is always the possibility of an unexpected random event that will force a change.

I somewhat agree with you that the current crop of Republicans would go along with keeping Healthcare and may even go with cap and trade. But that is not a certainity.

The oil disaster in the gulf was certainly predictable, but few would be able to predict the response of this administration and the way the people are turning against it.

I will not predict the next event (I don't have a clue although I could guess at some possibilities). What I can predict is two things, something is going to happen, and this administration is going to bungle it.

Our nation was once described as a ship with the president as captain, I think now we are more like a rubber raft going down some rapids with an untried, unskilled boatman steering. Hang on tight it is going to be a bumpy ride.

Repeal Healthcare, stop cap and trade, hell I will be happy if we survive this administration's term in office.

I expected this---you cannot hold that momentum continually, and for the most part, it's been the REPUBLICANS who've been attacking each other in primaries.

But I'll bet once that dust settles, you'll see these polls move back to the right---maybe not in a tidal wave, but significantly. I think 40 is probably our floor, but there is a lot of asinine legislatin' to be happenin' still, and don't underestimate the voters' wrath if they perceive that the Dems haven't gotten the message (which they haven't---they've only been quiet for a few weeks).

There are still some people who don’t have a clue, I actually had an old man who was born during the thirties tell me that things are not nearly as bad now and this is NOT a depression because...are you ready...WE DON’T HAVE SOUP KITCHENS NOW! My response was yes and we didn’t have millions of people swiping food stamp cards in the thirties.

Some people are actually expecting things to return to normal soon but what they regard as normal will never be seen again regardless of who wins congress or the presidency.

I get his e-mail every week and I can assure you I have never seen one original proposal from John.
He's riding the wave and will reap the title of speaker the same way Zero got to be President, there are too many others better able to lead.

This Republican bashing is BS. Gets old. A bunch of noobs here on FR who apparently can't read voting records of a unanimous GOP House that opposed health care along a rock solid senate opposition. Memory says that all but one Republican (Cao) in TWO votes on health care voted against it. I don't know what else people expect.

And for all the GOP haters here, I didn't see the voters rushing to replace Republicans with THRIFTIER, more BUDGET CONSCIOUS people, so that must tell you something. Apparently that message wasn't working in 2006 and 2008.

Blago COULD cause a big problem, but as long as Obama is President, he could be pardoned. My hunch is that Blago will nibble all around the edges of Obama, but never score a direct hit and Obama will include Blago in his list of pardonees in his last evening as President which will hopefully be in Jan. of 2013. Blago holds all the cards in this case.

I carry on the proud tradition of the root cellar learned at my pappy’s knee. Just wish I had the backyard, mature fruit trees, too.

But I know what you mean. It’s bittersweet, but I’m glad my folks aren’t around to see this. They were just in their 20s during the GD I; it’s only now, all these many years and so much abundance—followed by all this disastrous hardship all around—that I begin to understand how MUCH that early experience affected their lives.

As kids, we were unwilling, silent witnesses to nightly tirades against “The Great White Father” AKA FDR. Every night at the dinner table. We about went bug-eyed.

Then, of course, there were the starving children of India, for whose benefit I had to sit at the dinner table & finish everything, on top of hearing the previous tirade. Of course, I hadn’t understood about the hobos panhandling at my grandparents’ back door, just for some food, soup or a sandwich. I hadn’t really been panhandled then, as I can be now.

Now, we do have soup kitchens, homeless shelters, food banks, and, of course, food stamps, WIC, Welfare, etc., etc., etc. They just don’t ordinarily have long lines out around the block.

.....I will not predict the next event ......

I will. The critical event will be war in the Gulf.

Iran VS:Everyone Else.

Obama’s actions will determine the outcome.

WWI started with a miscalculation of what the assassination of a minor prince would cause.

I believe we are already at war with Muslims, it is just we are not treating it as one. If Israel attacks Iran, and if Iran does in fact have a nuclear bomb and uses it, the world as we know it will change just as surely as WWI changed the world. Old nations will disappear and new nations will appear.

It kind of makes the argument over cap and trade and healthcare seem somewhat minor.

People have forgotten that the words Democrat and Republican are just labels. A democrat and a republican are nice ways of saying liberal leaning moderate.

The true political parties in this country are the Conservative Party and the Communist Party.

We are not at war with Islam. Forget it.

The war is with radical Islam and Iranian Islam.

Americans have short memories, if they don’t see images of the huge protest in D.C., of people crying “kill the bill” right before they shoved it down our throats, they’ll forget why they were angry.

Also need to be reminded of the bailouts, of the GM takeover, of the failed stimulus as well as the total lack of interest from the President and Democratic congress as they went about pushing their own agenda, ignoring the problems and wishes of their constituents.

Would be hard to tie all that into an ad but I really think it’s key to killing the one-party in-your-face rule we currently have.

When it comes time to pick a side, which side will the non-radical Muslims pick?

I thought Alvin Greene was white. They’re making a big stink about him as his name “sounded African-American”. Image that! African-Americans voting for someone they don’t even know about, simply because they assumed he was black.

That’s racist.

And BTW, those last minute democrat dirty tricks against Republicans work so well because the driveby media is the propaganda arm of their party. If they played neutral half the stuff wouldn’t even see the light of day!
