In 1970, nine percent of California's population was comprised of immigrants; by 2008 it was 27 percent. A new report from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) finds that as a result of immigration, California now has the least-educated labor force of any state. Historically, California was not a state with a disproportionately large unskilled population, like Appalachia or parts of the South. However, immigration has transformed the state. Absent a change in immigration policy, other parts of the country may be transformed in a similar fashion.
The report, "A State Transformed: Immigration and the New California," can be found at http://www.cis.org/california-education. Among the findings:
* In 1970 California had the 7th most educated work force of the 50 states in terms of the share of its workers who had completed high school. By 2008, it ranked 50th, making it the least-educated state. One in six workers in the state has not graduated high school.
* The decline in education in California is large relative to other states. The percentage of Californians who have completed high school has increased since 1970; however, all other states made much more progress in improving education levels. As a result, California has fallen behind the rest of the country.
* The large relative decline in education in California is a direct result of immigration. Without immigrants, the share of California's labor force that has completed high school would be above the national average.
* There is no indication that California will soon close the educational gap. California ranks 35th in terms of the share of its 19-year-olds who have completed high school. Moreover, one-third of the adult immigrants who settled in the state in 2007 and 2008 had not completed high school, adding 91,000 new unskilled adults to the state.

It's not 'California' per se, or any state in particlular. It's the commieRAT run 'Urban Areas' (Cities) that pull down the average for the state. And that is easy to prove.
Go to www.GreatSchools.org and look at the school ratings and test scores of any 'Big City'. THEN, pick any suburb 20 miles away (use Google Maps, or equal) and compare them.
The figures do not lie. And yes, the 'Big City Schools' do have a HUGH 'immigrant' and minority student body. But hey, that's the way the commieRAT Mayors want it. Otherwise they wouldn't all be 'sanctuary cities' and soft on crime.
Another figure that doesn't lie, is the school funding canard. Every Big City School district I've checked gets the same or MORE money per pupil as the suburban schools.
A while back I looked at Baltimore, MD, and then picked a suburb at random. I wanted to puke.

This reminds me of an image on the TODAY Show. Can't remember what hurricane it was, but there was some Mexican guy standing in waist deep water as far as the eye could see. He was poking at a drain with a stick, trying to clear it. Priceless.

I was amazed to find at least one little town in upstate South Carolina that has a higher education level, higher average income and all that than San Francisco or New York City or almost anywhere. It is also over ninety percent white, whoda thunkit?

Arizona is trying to do something about it. I hope they succeed.
We may have to give Mexifornia back to Mexico just to rid ourselves of the welfare liability.
IQ is very limited in what it measures. If you want someone to crunch numbers or design circuits you probably need someone with a high IQ. If you want a good president, a good father, a good husband, a good neighbor, a good wife etc. IQ is not necessarily a great indicator. If IQ was a reliable indicator of potential I would be doing much better than I am and so would many of my family members. If stranded in a cold wilderness the best person to have along to save your butt might very well turn out to have an IQ of less than a hundred but with the experience to know what to do.
From what I have read it would seem that the IQ of those who went to Jonestown and died was above average.
Recently one of our retired border agents wrote the governor about this problem. This is the bland response he got.

As an immigrant, I can identify with the desire to come to this
country. The United States - a nation of immigrants and a nation of

cannot come at the expense of the American people or the security of
our international borders. The federal government’s failure to pass
comprehensive immigration reform is a reality we live with everyday in
our schools, workplaces and hospitals. We need federal action that
secures our border, protects taxpayers and creates a forward-looking
policy to meet the labor needs of our economy.
It is encouraging that President Obama is committed to providing more
resources to secure the border, and I look forward to seeing the final
proposal. Previous federal programs to provide additional resources
to the southwest border states have been successful, and I’ve been
lobbying the federal government to restore the funding needed to
provide more security along our border. We must find a permanent
solution to our broken immigration system, and I will continue to call
on the federal government to take action on comprehensive immigration
reform. Our borders must be secured, and our businesses must have the
employees they need but have been unable to find in our existing
workforce.

Great point, and a seldom reported fact when the experts compare the educational performance of, say, Rhode Island and Mississippi.
Without controlling for demographics, it means nothing.
