I cannot help but be reminded of the Sadducees every time this happens. For those of you who are not familiar with these Jews, they were basically in bed with the Roman occupiers of Israel between the 2nd Century BC into the 1st Century AD. They were exterminated in 70 AD when the Romans sacked the Temple and dispersed the Jews from Israel.
