Special Relationship Over? Britain Talks of Boycotting America
FOXNATION ^ | June 13, 2010 | Jonathan Oliver

The special relationship is over. We gave America years of unwavering support after September 11. And now we see how Barack Obama’s administration repays us.

First, Obama declared that America was “neutral” over the sovereignty of the Falklands, ignoring the clear wishes of the islands’ population. And, second, his Assistant Secretary of State, Philip Crowley, snubbed Britain by failing to use their proper name and instead calling them the “Malvinas”.

I don’t know where Obama learned about diplomacy, but his stinks...

Let me be clear: I’m not normally in favour of boycotts, and I love the American people. I holiday in their country regularly, and hate the tedious snobby sneers against the United States. But the American people chose to elect an idiot who seems hell bent on insulting their allies, and something must be done to stop Obama’s reckless foreign policy, before he does the dirty on his allies on every issue.

2009

STRASBOURG, France (AP) - Welcomed with thunderous cheers, President Barack Obama pledged on Friday to repair damaged relations with Europe, saying the world came together following the 2001 terrorist attacks but then “we got sidetracked by Iraq.”

“We must be honest with ourselves,” Obama said. “In recent years, we’ve allowed our alliance to drift.”

In his opening remarks, he underscored European and American ties and appeared intent on improving the U.S. image abroad, which suffered under George W. Bush. “I’ve come to Europe this week to renew our partnership,” Obama said, bluntly claiming that the relationship between the United States and Europe had gone adrift, with blame on both sides.

“In America, there’s a failure to appreciate Europe’s leading role in the world,” Obama said.

The world was going to love us again once President Obama took office. It is not working out as they said.

It’s still all about them.

They defecate oil over over thousands of square miles and they still don’t give a damn.

They act like they spilled a few crackers on the floor. Brits are clueless. Let’s dump about 5 million gallons in the Thames river, maybe they’ll get the picture.

I don’t know what their lefties have to complain about. They got exactly who and what they wanted in the Oval Office.

ROFL, she was in a limo...not the kind of vehicle he expected to pick him up. She just asked about his family and how he was doing, and the instant her companion addressed her as “Your Majesty” he figured it out. He said she was very nice and wasn’t nervous until the MP’s came for him!

Need to update this a couple of decades...

Forty Years
Joe Jackson

Here in Berlin, people line up to get in
To wait for the end, living in glorious sin
They’ve looked around and now there is no looking back
To when rivers ran red, now it’s the sky that grows black
Shadows are cast as two giants roam over the earth
We light a match, but what is that little flame worth

Once allies danced and sang
But it was forty years ago

Here in D.C., they talk about ’Euro-disease’
And how the French are always so damn hard to please
Motions are passed in Brussels but no one agrees
And no one walks tall, but no one gets down on their knees

Once allies laughed and drank
But it was forty years ago

Where I come from, they don’t like Americans much
They think they’re so loud, so tasteless, and so out of touch
Stiff upper lips are curled into permanent sneers
Self-satisfied, awaiting the next forty years

Once allies cried and cheered
But it was forty years ago

No, you gave Western Civilization “unwavering support” after 9/11.

This IS as much YOUR fight as it is ours.

....to be fair British colonial rule in many countries was brutal to say the least (Jamaica for example)

Also to be fair, Britain in many colonies

Any questions?

but the Brits seem to have very short memories. They were all for us electing Obama before the election.

Actually, we weren't. There are comments of this kind (at least 7 on this thread) every time there's a report from the other side of the Atlantic that the British are unhappy with something the current regime has done or said. But the impression that Obama's election was greeted with unalloyed joy by this entire nation is very wide of the mark, I can assure you. Those who had, to put it at its mildest, doubts, may not have been as loud as the Obama fans and did not, on the whole, have the ear of the media - but there were (and are) plenty of them.

From where I sit it looks like the vast majority of rural people around the globe tend to be conservative.

Glad to hear this. I guess your media is like ours. They have an agenda and they ignore the majority. We hear that from Canadians all the time, too. That its not the people, its the media and government that hates us.

I respectfully disagree. I know some were skeptical but others were giddy.

And if many Brits didn’t like the pre-election 0bama (and I will accept that), would they have preferred the successor to the loathed-abroad George Bush?

There is no question that, along with its ills, British colonialism bestowed a positive legacy in many countries as enumerated by entulusgracchus.
