Obama Begins "Lifestyle Health Modification" Program, Mandating Behavioural Changes in US Society
Zero Hedge ^ | 6-13-10 | Tyler Durden

Last week, with little fanfare, among the ever deteriorating oil spill crisis, the White House quietly noted the issuance of an executive order "Establishing the National Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health Council", in which the president, citing the “authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America” is now actively engaging in "lifestyle behavior modification" for American citizens that do not exhibit "healthy behavior." At least initially, the 8 main verticals of focus will include: smoking cessation; proper nutrition; appropriate exercise

Now that fedgov has a financial interest in our health, it makes sense that they’d try to control costs. This is just the beginning.

Just like seatbelt laws (because not wearing seatbelts adds to health insurance costs). Now we’ll get, eventually, the entire UN vegan/vegetarian low salt low protein diet to keep us “healthy” and not costing much for healthcare, plus dying at 65 to avoid geriatric care. Population control will figure in, as well, Paul Erlich is still revered.

So this will save tax dollars! We just won’t live as long.

How has it intruded on your life?

It hasn't... yet. Now I have a question for you. Where do you think the Constitution authorizes fedgov regulation of mental health?

“Where in the constitution is the president authorized to write executive orders?” — Jessica Mason, Raleigh, Miss.

Nowhere. Executive orders are not defined in the constitution.

Article 2 outlines the executive branch, stating that “the executive power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America.”

http://www.congress.org/news/2010/05/24/are_executive_orders_constitutional

~~~~~~~~
And so John Adams’ earnest beseeching ..
“I pray to heaven to bestow the best of blessings on this house and all that hereafter inhabit it. May none but honest and wise men ever rule under this roof.”
The Founding Fathers are somersaulting in agony in their
blessed graves over this diabolical resident.
You didn’t answer my question about Pres. Bush.
“(1) worksite health promotion;
(2) community services, including community health centers;
(3) preventive medicine;
(4) health coaching;
(5) public health education;
(6) geriatrics; and
(7) rehabilitation medicine.’
Wow this is something new. Never heard of such things before. We’re all gonna get healthy!
I understand the reduction of tobacco use and sedentary behavior in the labor camps, but I'm not so sure about the good nutrition part. Don't they usually just starve you to death in labor camps?
Cordially,
You didn't answer my question about Pres. Bush.
You asked me that question in a follow up post and as you can see, I've now replied. However, you did not answer my question, which was very simple and straightforward.
Where do you think the Constitution authorizes fedgov to regulate mental health?
Nope. You did not answer where you thought the Constitution authorized fedgov regulation of mental health. Name the Section and Clause, please.
Agree. I suspect this is not so much a power grab to control everyone as it is a scheme to funnel more money and benefits to his usual constituents. Like Michelle and her “food desserts”, which provides an excuse to bully supermarkets to locate in high-risk neighborhood, these “recommendations” will mean more opportunities to subsidize the lower class, which is, after all, the least healthy segment of our population. Along with grocery stores, look to see pressure to establish health clubs in the inner cities with subsidized club memberships, free summer camps for the inner city kids, grants to academics to study the lower classes, more grants to ACORN to coordinate care of the lower class, pressure on graduating physicians to practice in the inner cities, eminent domain to create parks, destruction of roads to create bike paths, more federal, state and local government employees to run health programs. On and on, ways to increase benefits without seeming to increase welfare or create new government jobs. And all sanctioned by the recommendations of this “nonpartisan” council.
