You know Balloon Boy’s dad was a liar, and he got the kids to help with the scheme, but at least he did not actually put the kid in danger. Abbies parents should be strung up, they simply can not get enough attention, and they need it so much they would put their kids at risk. A 16 year old kid simply has not seen enough to know what to do in every situation.
What should be illegal is reality TV shows involving minor children. Then Balloon Boy would have no need to hide, Abby could have sailed when it was safer, Octo-Mom would have thought twice about having 14 children, Kate whats-her-face’s face wouldn’t be all over the place....
