Touchdown Jesus destroyed by lightning from storms
After that they put a lightning rod on the building.
The statue, officially called King of Kings but known to Ohioan natives as Touchdown Jesus, is a 62-foot (19 meters)-tall statue of Jesus located along I-75 near Monroe, a city in southwest Ohio. It depicts Jesus from the chest up, with his arms and head raised to the sky.
It is located in the front of Solid Rock Church, and to some the statue is known as Big Butter Jesus.
"My friend just said that the insurance company might refuse to pay, since it's clearly an Act of God."
I know it well.
The Moslem neighbors will get all excited I am sure.
From the article:
“Six people trying to reach the shelter of the building only made it as far as the statue when the downpour began. Witnesses said when they saw the lightening strike they thought for sure the people were killed. However, they were safe as the Jesus statue took the full brunt of the jolt.”
Well, not really, but.....
I saw a photo of this thing posted somewhere around here very recently. Weird. Well anyway, here's the "after" photo:
I couldn't help but notice that the source page has "livewire" in the URL.
That is an amazing photo what with the lightening still in the background. Looks like a scene from “Ghost Busters”. Look like the statue is fully destroyed. Wow!
If I was an insurance company I wouldn't be screwin' around with this. There's more lightning bolts where that one came from.
the destruction at least shows the Almighty has good taste.
Exodus 20:4
Thanks for posting the pic for anyone that had no idea who/what Touchdown Jesus is/was.
It is/was located right next to I-75 and supposedly caused numerous wrecks as people slowed to gawk at it.
Many people thought it was gaudy and a waste of money.
Was the thing made out of paper mache or something highly combustable?
Looks like “Help me! I’m drowning!” Jesus.
To see what it is made from.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gq01UYiMyHg&feature=related
via wikipedia, Notre Dame entry:
>>The stadium is known for its view of "Touchdown Jesus", a nickname given to the large mural entitled The Word of Life by Millard Sheets of the resurrected Jesus. Installed in 1964 on the Hesburgh Library, the mosaicked wall looms over the stadium mirroring the raised arms of a referee signifying a touchdown. The stadium expansion had the side effect of partially obscuring the view of the mural from the field.
Looks like Help me! Im drowning! Jesus.I'm gonna go with "Hot Tub Jesus".
