That thing is hit by lightning all the time. I saw a special on it. They pretty much have to do repairs on it on constant basis. Just a matter of time...it's going to be destroyed eventually.

Christ the Redeemer is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone. The one that burned down was wood, styrofoam, fiberglass and resin on a steel frame. A lightning rod essentially stuck in a pile of kindling just waiting for a spark..................
