I was a young child during WW II.........there were blackouts, rationing coupons for everything from food to fuel.
Following the war we all contributed to Care Packages even when we hardly had enough money to get through the month and pay the rent.
Families helped each other and I can never remember a Woe is Me attitude. Women entered the workforce taking jobs that men used to hold before they went to war.
Classrooms were jammed with thirty or more kids. No parents went whining to the administration either. We behaved or else. We learned out lessons well.
Played hopscotch on the front walk. All we needed for a toy was a small piece of chalk. The greatest treat we could have was a piece of Bazooka bubble gum which we saved on the bed post overnight.
Well... did it lose its flavor? ;)
I preferred Double-Bubble...
ahhh those were the days .....America has lost that attitude by a gov’t that has an attitude of don’t worry we will take care and provide for you...
