Amos led 3rd MAW during the drive to Baghdad and was in the thick of it along with Conway (I MEF commander), Mattis (1st Marine Division), and Natonski (Task Force Tarawa).

They were an outstanding USMC command team, and largely responsible for taking Saddam down by fighting their way up the Tigris and Euphrates valleys and storming into East Baghdad.

Mattis got passed over because he's too much like George S. Patton---he likes to fight and is non-politically correct.
