Chris Matthews' Documentary 'Rise of the New Right': A Curveball From the Left

If MSNBC was looking to officially become the cable channel of the far left, it may have finally succeeded Wednesday night with the airing of Chris Matthews' documentary "The Rise of The New Right."

MSNBC -- the network whose hosts routinely mock Tea Party activists as "Tea Baggers" -- aggressively promoted the documentary, with Matthews appearing on "Morning Joe" and "The Daily Rundown" Wednesday morning, as well as throughout the day.

Matthews clearly believes, as "Hardball's" website says, "the new right is an emerging fact of life in 21st century." As such, it was time to launch a thorough analysis into this nascent phenomenon and (as MSNBC's documentary website says) "investigate in-depth some of the most important stories of our time." Sadly, though, Matthews' hour-long documentary effort left us with more questions than answers.

To be sure, the program came equipped with the perfunctory ominous music (meant to let you know when to be scared) and interviews ranging from respected former Majority Leader (and now president of Freedomworks) Dick Armey to Orly Taitz, the "unofficial leader of the Birthers," who recently lost a GOP primary in California by a landslide.

The documentary also features members of the Michigan Militia at their survival training camp (who were calm and well spoken), and interviews with Kentucky GOP Senate nominee Rand Paul from the campaign trail. Surprisingly, it also featured the positive portrayal of a suburban Hispanic mom named Anna, who has become a Tea Party activist.

Somehow, the thought of those tens of viewers of Matthew’s comedy show getting worked up just doesn’t bother me very much.

This documentary will have been seen by the faculty of Harvard, the entire Wellesley Womyn's Wrestling team and Matthews' mother.

That's about it. He's shoveling sh!t against the tide.

It's pathetic when a real blowhard can't realize that no one hears his blowing.

Excellent, that was my first thought when seeing the title, but you put it very eloquently.

When you are as far out on the left as Hissy Matthews, even the center looks like the far right.

As long as it brings about the demise of the “old Left.”

A Curveball From the Left

Curveball? Not hardly. It is the epitome of the left, the MSM and even our government today.

Yes, I agree. I was almost intrigued by what he might say but then thought, this is Chrissy boy, I already know everything he is going to say.

He is so one dimensional, predictable, and most of all boring.

He is like being stuck on an island with one Buffet CD. How many times can you listen to it?

Curveball? Sure - but it's low and outside the strike zone. Matthews throws like a girl...

I watched about 10 mins of it (painfully). As expected, he basically took the wackiest internet talk radio host -- Alex Jones -- who is a birther who talks alot about the coming revolution, and tried to push the meme that Jones is the face of the Tea Party. Very unfair.

But that's okay with me. Just keep preaching that the tea partiers are all nut cases, and preach your party right out of office, Chrissy!

I watched the entire show. It was a painful experience. It’s biggest crime? It was both fallacious and boring. I kept expecting Mr. Tingle Legs to start screaming, “The sky is falling. The sky is falling.” To my chagrin, he never did.

It's pathetic when a real blowhard can't realize that no one hears his blowing.

Which brings us to that age-old philisophical question, namely, if a blowhard blows in the forest and no one hears him blow, did he blow a sound?
