I was thinking that it would have to be strong arming Obama to step down voluntarily in a manner that ‘saves face.’

This, I think, is an impossible task. At first I thought, perhaps, that they would blame Bush (i.e. ‘old white men’). “My fellow Americans, the policies needed to save the prosperity and freedom that our country has long enjoyed cannot be enacted due to the constant obstructionism of those so entrenched in racism that they would see our democracy perish rather than flourish as long as an African American holds the office of the presidency....” This would blame the failure of Obama on us and further entrench racial division and the false, perceived ‘need’ for race quotas and the Dems to represent the oppressed.I believe this would result in riots too but some on the left would silently be relieved to take this route out of the obvious disaster of his presidency.
Or, what is to stop Obama from claiming serious medical problems? Initially with a promise to return to office as soon as he is well (in order to smooth the transition). Once out of the WH for awhile, he can make a full recovery and say his ‘life threatening illness’ made him appreciate his family more and that he wants to spend more time with them. This would only come about with sufficient black mail and with his past, surely there is enough. This excuse would not be accepted as truthful by a portion of the African American community - it would cause alienation there and suspicions that the republicans or racists sabotaged him. IN the meantime, Obama would be feted as a hero. I dunno.
The scariest one, one I had not thought of, is the intentional race riots requiring martial law that I think you meant in your post. This would entrench Dem power as a large portion of the country would blame the repubs.

She is setting up to challenge him in 2012. Mark my words, she is trying to appear to be playing nice, and she’ll keep it up until after the midterms, but after that (within two months), his “incompetence” and “squandering a Dem majority” will result in her jumping ship and starting her 2012 campaign.
