What Is Wrong With the Economist?
New York Sun ^ | June 16, 2010 | Editorial of The New York Sun

Posted on 06/19/2010 2:32:18 PM PDT by BCrago66

The Economist is out with an editorial this week called “What’s Wrong With America’s Right.” It starts out rowing back from its endorsement of Barack Obama in 2008, explaining that he has done “little to fix the deficit,” shown “a zeal for big government,” and “all too often” has “given the impression that capitalism is something unpleasant he found on the sole of his sneaker.” So it asserts their endorsee needs to be “pegged back.” Then editors John Mickelthwait and Co. take out their humiliation on those American Republicans and conservatives who have stood most steadily on principle from the get-go.

Some of you might remember The New York Sun, a great conservative/libertarian newspaper that went under in the midst of the recession around 18 months ago. (I used to receive it free everyday, as the beneficiary of one of their promotions.) The paper still exists, as a virtual presence on the web, publishing editorials on a semi-regular basis. The editorials are - in my opinion - very good, even though I can't figure out what individual human being is actually writing them. There are, additionally, a smaller number of signed editorials.

I've long heard from many that the The Economist was the greatest magazine in the world. But every time I've read it the articles seemed to be rubbish. Granted I don't subscribe and those articles which are so bad are typically linked. But still you have to question any publication that endorsed Obama. Sane people simply don't do anything that stupid.

Obama's failures were completely predictable and most of us on this site saw through the phony in about 30 milliseconds. And yet the geniuses at The Economist seemed to have missed it. What else have they missed?

Additionally, that magazine has had an anti-Israel bias for decades. In it’s favor, at least it isn’t written on a 6th grade reading level as is Time and Newsweak.

It’s published in the UK and the UK loves leaning Left to the point they bend over and take it from the Muzzies and crucify anyone legally who owns a gun.

“In it’s favor” - apostrophe error, while I was attacking the writing of others. Oh well.

Over the last 25 years I have picked up the Economist thinking, hoping it is a great magazine. Going by the cover it seems to be....

I have been disappointed every single time. Plus they are very anti-Israel as someone said. Very free trade oriented too (as in running up huge trade deficits)

I like their articles on places around the world that rarely got coverage, but I had to do many eye-rolls on many of their left-tilting articles about the U.S. and UK.

After that cover, I’m just giving up on it for good.

There are some people you just can’t satisfy. They are mad when you increase the deficit. They are mad when you cut it. Ignore them.

“a zeal for big government,”

They couldn’t see that before he was elected? Really?

The Economist is a Liberal magazine. It should be no surprise that a magazine that pushes the Liberal Free Trade Globalist Agenda would be in love with Obama...

We are going to sit out until November pinning our hopes on an outcome five months away, doing, well not much, while republicans in congress peep out only small objections to the loss of representative govenment, also waiting for November. If we see cap and trade through we will have lolled away the summer until it was too late, so I don’t entirely disagree with the point of the column. The republicans are leaderless, and the ones that the media cover are either enriching themselves or enjoying the publicity. It is just not bad enough yet for a serious leader to emerge from the right.

The Economist used to be good. It has, however, sucked for the past 10 years....

You can’t be surprised a Brit publication is confounded to the point of blindness by the concept of “constitutionalism.”

The Economist has turned into a leftist waste of too much money.

Investors Business Daily and the WSJ are the way to go.
