When Jews start their High Holy Days and Christians pray on Good Friday, Nova Southeastern University will be open for business in the coming academic year, ending a longstanding tradition of shutting down for religious holidays.
The Davie-based university is the latest educational body to grapple with a sensitive issue: dealing with the religious needs of students and employees.
If a school shuts down for Christmas, Good Friday, Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah, some question whether the same courtesy should given to Eid al-Fitr, the day that follows the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, or Diwali, a holy day for Hindus.

Not to mention that Davie, Fl is the 11,341st holiest site in Islam.
gotta love the liberal equivalence. I think we all know that Christmas has more social significance to more Americans that the feast of Eid al-Fitr. So no, there should NOT be any question whether we should extend the marking of such holidays. The question only comes up when liberals are having their angst driven panic attacks about diversity and equality and all that stuff.
Since I’ve never even heard of Nova Southeastern University but I am sure it’s a fine school ..... yada ... yada ... yada ....
They should be told that no one cares. Additionally, their students should told they’d be better off at a trade school than at some silly school no one has ever heard of.
I guess silly stunts like this are cheaper at drawing attention to you than those silly commericals pushing enrollment so they can get more taxpayer’s money from student loans.
Will the government school employees still demand holiday pay? Can they give it to them as still not feel hypocritical.
And how about those Wiccan holidays??
As the school is in an area that probably skews about even in the Christian/Jewish/Other demographic breakdown, this really isn’t out of line. It’s a private university and can make their own rules.
Of course I once got the duty on Thanksgiving, but that's not a holiday peculiar to any particular religion.
