I get my national and international news from The Wall Street Journal.
Neither paper is perfect, but they at least use their own reporters and make an attempt to be balanced on most things.
I think that using your own reporters is crucial. The news wires homogenize the newspapers which use them; it is no good comparing editorial pages of papers and thinking that a conservative editorial page maps to conservative news. Because conservative news is an oxymoron. The only good news ("Gospel" being Greek for "good news") is almost 2000 years old . . .
