They Commander or the President may ask your opinion. If that is the case, then you give your most honest assesment. But once the order is given, you carry it out to the best of your ability. I said McA was right and we should have bombed(with nukes)the North Korean army, won the war and put a stop to communist expansion in the east. Vietnam was fought precisely because our weak kneed CIC(Truman)would not fight to win the Korean "Police Action". Time has proven McA was correct. Because you said that you thought General MacArthur "should have gone ahead and bombed the crap out of North Korea" with nuclear weapons, in violation of the express orders of President Truman. If the Army can violate the orders of the elected President -- particularly with regard to the use of nuclear weapons -- then I don't know what you have, but it's certainly not any kind of Republic.

We have chaos now. And yes Officers swear an oath to the constitution, no where in the oath is the President mentioned. We don't swear fealty to individuals in the USA. Yes, they are supposed to obey all LAWFUL orders but it is their duty to disobey and question all orders they think are unlawful. McC will undoubtedly be fired, that is the right of the President, just as it was the General's right to question and criticize the President as long as he was willing to take the consequences. Judging by his wimpy assed apology I don't think he was ready to accept the consequences.

Clark was 8 months out of the military, May 2000, by the time George W. Bush took office in 2001. Clark never served under the younger Bush.
