McChrystal denies offering to resign
MSNBC ^ | June 23, 2010 | Staff

WASHINGTON - At a precarious moment in the war in Afghanistan, President Barack Obama prepared to hear his top war commander explain biting published complaints about the commander in chief and his aides. Even before their showdown, the White House's rebuke of Gen. Stanley McChrystal suggested it would be hard for him to save his job.

Ahead of his meeting with the president, McChrystal arrived at the Pentagon for meetings, including once scheduled with Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

On his arrival, he denied to NBC News that he's offered his resignation. "Come on, you know better than that. No!"

I agree, however, Bush took this kind of thing daily from the media and others in the military and handled it with grace and poise - He said nothing. If the media treated Obama like they did Bush he would have been impeached by now.

Bush was presumed guilty by the public in his total silence in the face of all the attacks. It was not “grace and poise.”

Bush served, politically, as a weak punching bag for a bunch of bullies because he and/or Rove felt uncomfortable with political operations and conflict about the war or anything outside the election cycle. It is a weakness for a president to hide in his closet in the face of such a public storm like the Left/Muslims whipped up against Bush.

BHO is just such a pathetic grandstander -- all this theatricality is just excrutiating to witness; BHO is the archetypal Drama Queen.

LOL

Only thing worse than BHO is the groveling state run media that is reporting this without commenting on the FARCE that it is.

I don’t think he blows his vuvuzela for the home team.

I believe the slow destruction of our military while on the battle field is not an accident. Its a strategy. Give them just enough support to stay on the field and lose slowly and painfully. That is the strategy put in place by this Kenyan citizen.

He is teaching American Citizens a lesson. Its his job as he sees it.

I wonder if McCrystal is a birther.

I would absolutely love for the POS to tell McCrystal to resign and McCrystal states - Yeah, you and what army you POS. Show me your papers first. :)

You know, I understand some people being intimidated by the top brass (I've witnessed that with my son who nearly had a fainting spell when I walked up to the next person in line and shook hands, exchanged pleasantries and extended my thanks for his dedication to preparing young men and women at OCS [the Commandant -- who knew, he just looked like a very nice man everyone was ignoring]), and I also understand someone not being up to speed on military issues. I'm not intimidated, although I don't have any idea how to wage and win a war. I do, however, know how to articulate my goals and what I wish to achieve. If I set the goals to eliminate civilian casualties and still wish to wage “war,” I would give that directive to my generals and let them figure out how to make that happen. If it didn't happen, my generals could expect an invitation to meet and, if necessary, my butt would be jammed in a seat on the next transport out to make that happen.

I would also make damned sure EVERYBODY on my team was on the same page. I don't expect my president to know how to wage war, I expect him to set the agenda, keep in constant contact with those who do know how to conduct a war, and if ANYBODY in my administration got in the way of protecting my troops or put them in danger with his (or her) big mouth, it would be their last appearance in a public forum and on behalf of my administration.

I expect my president to be disciplined, principled, honest, forthright, wise and committed to defending and implementing the Constitution of the United States of America. Perhaps that is what McCrystal thought he was electing (being somewhat occupied elsewhere during the presidential campaigns). He obviously didn't find those qualities in Senator McCain or he would have voted for him.

Unfortunately, for Gen. McCrystal, he was too busy to research who his boss would be and wound up serving someone who has risen to the level of his incompetency. On the bright side, if we're lucky, the rest of our military won't have to serve under Corporal Schicklgruber, if we all get it right the next time.

I’m curious. What did the General specifically say that would be considered open criticism? Read the article carefully: most of it was quotes from his staff and conjecture by the author.

Except that Rolling Stone gave the article, in full, to Mac in order fro him to fact check it .... he let it go through as is.

His balls are bigger than Bambi's brain.

“He indicated he voted for BO. So he’s either a liar or a fool.”

Obviously, if he did vote for BO, then those are not mutually exclusive traits which the General fosters!

The Impostor in Chief notwithstanding, I don't know why we're in Afghanistan other than to implement some kind of convoluted Bush idea called counterinsurgency ("COIN") that confuses military strategy, tactics, and the soldiers to their demoralization. Unfortunately, it looks like McCrystal is big on this COIN thing.

We should be INTELLIGENTLY but DETERMINEDLY going after Osama (and Obama?) and his band, thereby, along with securing our borders from illegals, sending a message to all the Islamofascists, "Don't mess with the U.S."

We should not be in the business of trying to Americanize the Arab world. That is ludicrous. But the Islamo-killers run and hide in their caves when confronted with deadly determined force and INTELLIGENT strategy keeps them there.

KFI in Los Angeles just reported that McChrystal left the White House without attending the war planning meeting that he was originally called there to attend. No one is saying anything about the outcome of his meeting with Obama, however.

I’m not a huge fan of McChrystal, but I do know he’s sincere about the mission and would die for his men.

Obama...NOT!

Wonder if we are in a “who is going to blink first” holding pattern.

My mind is spinning all sorts of possibilities.

If McCrystal is fired or his resignation accepted, is it common practice for the WH to allow the General a chance to inform his staff before making a public statement?

Or...

Since we are at war, would we need a replacement named as soon as McChrystal’s departure is announced?

A fly on the Kenyans face told me that McCrystal told Obama to shove it up his kenyan born hole.

Too bad General McCrystal’s last act couldn’t be to drop every last bomb we own on Pakistan - for sure, that country is hiding and training the multitude of AlQuaida and other terrorists!~
