Exclusive: Terrorists Join the Traffic Across the Mexican Border

The debate about how to make our porous southern border safe and how to deal with millions of illegal aliens in our midst has been dragged into the sunlight by Arizona’s new laws. The vast majority of Arizona voters applauds those laws, yet the Obama administration ignores them as well as the rising tide of American public opinion. Why is that? Could it be the politicians who now rule us need millions of new Democrat voters?

No wonder Secretary of State Hillary Clinton threatens to sue Arizona. No wonder Attorney General Eric Holder says not “if” but “when.” Democrat officials are acting so strangely because recent primaries show their party is in trouble in lots of places for lots of reasons and needs lots of new Democrat voters. So amnesty and giving the right to vote to 12 million illegal aliens is essential, even if it means bleeding millions of scarce dollars from state budgets for free healthcare and free education for illegal aliens. Even if it means battles with Mexican drug cartels and a crime wave along the border. Democrats know a quick amnesty and the vote are essential because once 12 million illegal Latinos are enfranchised they will vote Democrat, and the Democrat Party will rule forever.

Arizona’s Governor Jan Brewer recognized that threat. Then she infuriated liberal Democrats yet again by signing another bill targeting ethnic studies and schools that demean non-Latino Americans. The law takes effect in December and prohibits courses designed for students of a single race, as well as courses and textbooks that teach resentment of another race. The United Nations jumped on the law before it was signed, of course, saying it would not promote respect for “ethnic and cultural diversity.” It seems the UN did not investigate “Chicanos Por La Causa,” a group claiming to be Arizona’s largest community development organization. But the Arizona state government investigated.

La Causa schools use textbooks like “Oppressed America,” one that quotes a Hispanic activist who says Chicanos should “kill the gringo.” Another textbook, “The Mexican American Heritage,” promotes establishment of Aztlan; five Southwestern states, it insists, should be returned to Mexican control. And as far as the Latino vote is concerned, La Causa students were treated to a speech by activist Dolores Huerta who said, “Republicans hate Latinos.”

Defending their safety and their budgets, at least ten states from Utah to Texas are now considering laws like those of Arizona. Meantime, while Mr. Holder and Ms. Clinton sue the entire country and do whatever else it takes to give the vote to illegal aliens, the Democrat congress tells us to look into our hearts, find compassion, and finally admit nothing can really be done about border defense or illegal aliens. But contrary to hopes of changers in the White House, Americans are learning what they are losing and what must be done. Americans also know, even if Speaker Pelosi calls illegal immigrants “American patriots,” that terrorists are streaming across the border along with those friendly lettuce-pickers and pool-cleaners.

A 2006 report by the Investigations subcommittee of the House Committee on Homeland Security, "A Line in the Sand: Confronting the threat at the Southwest Border ” (pdf) says the number of aliens other than Mexican (OTMs) who are illegally crossing our border is growing at an “alarming rate.” Border Patrol statistics show there were 30,147 OTMs arrested in 2003, 44,614 in 2004, 165,178 in 2005, and 108,025 in 2006. Of great importance in this flood of illegal aliens—from places other than Mexico—are those who come from thirty-five nations the Department of HomelandSecurity calls “special interest” countries. These are countries designated by intelligence agencies as those that export terrorists. From just 2001 to 2006, tens of thousands of illegal aliens have been arrested from “special interest” countries including: Yemen, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Jordan.

For example, seven Iraqis were arrested in Brownsville, Texas, in 2006. In August of 2006 an Afghani was found swimming the Rio Grande River near Hidalgo, Texas. And, besides finding prayer rugs and Korans along the Rio Grande, law officers find patches torn from jackets depicting airplanes flying into buildings. One shows a lion’s head with Arabic mottos. Words on these patches include “martyr,” and “way to immortality.”

Still not alarmed? Then think about OTMs who are members of Hizbollah, the deadly Iranian terror organization. They simply cross the Mexican border, embed themselves in the United States, and wait for orders from Iran. In 2005, Mahmoud Youssef Kourani pleaded guilty to providing material support to Hizbollah. How did he get here? He bribed a Mexican consular official in Lebanon for a travel visa to Mexico. The rest was easy. He just walked across the border and traveled to Dearborn, Michigan, a hotbed of Islamists. Incidentally, Kourani is a brother of Hizbollah’s chief of military operations in southern Lebanon.

Then there is Adnan el-Shukrijumah. Atlanta’s WSB-TV station explains that el-Shukrijumah, an al Qaeda terrorist, crossed the border, made threats against the United States, and now is wanted by the FBI. With a $5 million bounty on his head, he was last seen in Atlanta in 2004.

If the Border Patrol caught hundreds, then surely thousands of undetected terrorists have crossed our undefended Mexican border in the last ten years. The U.S. Army’s Southern Command reports that drug cartels are taking advantage of our “unregulated border” to create a serious security risk for the United States. Charging $15,000 to $60,000 for each “special interest” client, smuggling OTM illegal aliens into the United States is becoming another billion dollar business for the Mexican drug cartels.

Law enforcement and intelligence officers interviewed by The Washington Examiner said reports of foreign nationals with terrorist ties caught at the border will no longer be made available to the public. There are no more OTM reports. Covered by this recent blackout, the Department of Justice, Mr. Holder’s fiefdom, assures us that no known terrorists were arrested at the border in the last five years.

President Obama, Secretary Clinton, and Attorney General Holder—you must plug the hole in our southern border. You must stop giving illegal aliens a free ride. You must stop promoting amnesty in exchange for votes. You must protect us from terrorists flooding across our border. They are not coming here to vote for you.

Proposed Nicaragua law found to be like Arizona’s

Articles in an immigration bill being reviewed for approval by the National Assembly in Managua, Nicaragua, have sparked a controversy for being as “drastic” as those of Costa Rica and the US. The following article from El Nuevo Diario, titled “New immigration law would be ‘dehumanizing’ “ and translated in full, sums up the opposition’s arguments:

“New immigration law would be ‘dehumanizing’“

If the Immigration and Alien Law were approved, particularly in its present state, its Articles 153 to 158 would require every hotel, inn and motel, as well as public transport and taxi drivers, to ask for identification from those who requested service in order to avoid a fine. Heydi Gonzalez, coordinator of the Nicaraguan Network of the Migration Civil Society, pointed this out and considers that, in the first place, a person cannot be criminalized for being a migrant without legal documentation, and even less, that a fine be assessed to one who provides shelter or transportation, which would be a violation of human rights.

The Law, approved in principle and now undergoing study of its specifics, has articles that impose fines and even criminal proceedings against those who provide service to a migrant who is in irregular status, thus, they will be obligated to demand identity and travel documents from aliens. Likewise, Article 153 prohibits the hiring of undocumented workers, or those who, though in legal status, are not authorized to perform work activities.

Gonzalez commented that every State has its regulations, and that similar or more stringent criteria of control than those mentioned in the recently approved law exist in the entire Central American region; nevertheless, in Nicaragua, sanctions or fines ought to be imposed only on those who house, transport or hire undocumented aliens when this takes place within the violation of migrant or people trafficking.

The representative from the Migrants’ Network set forth, “It would be a dehumanizing law. Let us imagine that a South American, Asian or African victim of people traffickers was abandoned out in the elements, but no one can provide him humanitarian assistance because it’s prohibited by the law. That’s the risk incurred in this type of regulation. It’s obvious that every country has the right to regulate migratory traffic and to establish requirements, but strict migratory policies and expensive procedures compel people to travel without documentation.”

She commented that, due to its geographic location, the entire Central American region is the bridge for Africans, Asians and South Americans. Some, especially the Africans, come from countries at war or in terrible humanitarian crisis, people who come seeking refuge. She stated, “If we are asking respect for our detainees in other countries, let us not do the same in Nicaragua. The problem is that the State concerns itself more in controlling and militarizing the border, but does not deal with the humane treatment of persons who, in the majority, move from their country for economic reasons. We have as a starting point that the migrant is not a criminal.”

The Immigration and Alien Law has been pending since 2007, and civil organizations pressed for its approval among other pending laws. When news came of its approval in principle, its provisions began to be studied and pertinent observations were made to the deputies, requesting the inclusion of human rights elements in this law. Among these, to acknowledge that an undocumented migrant, although he may not have the right to remain in the country, also has rights. It is also the opinion of the Inter American Human Rights Commission that the labor rights of migrants have to be respected.

“Those are elements that we do not see in this proposal, and I’m unable to perceive that they are meeting the obligation of incorporating human rights elements acknowledged by Nicaragua in international forums in the International Convention for the Protection of Human Rights of All Migrant Workers and their Families, or the Convention of (the year) 90, ratified by our country in 2005, from which, among other issues, it must present a report of improvements every two years. Something that our government has not done.

The Nicaraguan Navy captured six Honduran fishing boats “in Nicaraguan waters” several days ago in response to complaints by other fishermen of 25 to 30 boats invading their territory. The roundup of illegal fishermen resulted in the deportation of some 10 or more back to Honduras.

Anti-Mexican climate feared because of Arizona Law

Arizona’s law SB 1070 is feared to reflect “a dangerous anti-Mexican climate” that could spread to other states in the US, in the opinion of academic Juan Carlos Calleros of the Valley of Mexico University (UVM) in Mexico City. In an internet conference with students, Calleros commented that the recent cases of two migrants killed at the hands of the Border Patrol are indications of what can foster exacerbated anti-Mexican feelings. He said there is a need to eliminate the anti-Mexican climate that greatly affects Mexicans on both sides of the border. Calleros also urged that the importance of migration be evaluated and consequently bring about reform.

Two arrested in ambush of Federal Police in Michoacán

Mexican Federal Police arrested two men presumably linked to the ambush murders of 12 of their fellow officers in Zitacuaro, Michoacán, last Monday. [M3 Report 6/15/10.] The two confessed to their part in the attack and said it was in retaliation for the arrests of members of the criminal organization La Familia Michoacána. According to them, Nazario Moreno, “El Chayo,” one of La Familia’s leaders, ordered the ambush that was organized and carried out by a subject identified only as “El Chuky,” who then enlisted the services of two other gangs headed by “Don Pete” and “La Morsa.” Their plan was carried out by 35 hired guns in 12 vehicles. Describing the attack, a commander in the Federal Police said the caravan followed a gully leading to a highway bridge and took positions to await the police convoy. When it arrived, the hitmen opened their attack with AK-47 assault rifles and fragmentation grenades. In the ensuing battle that lasted 20 to 30 minutes, the 12 federal agents were killed as well as one of the aggressors and several others were wounded.

Juarez registers 15 mob killings

At least 15 people, including two adolescents, were assassinated by gunfire in the past 24 hours in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua. In one incident, three were gunned down together. One of them was a 15-year-old. There have been no arrests.

Europe and US not meeting their responsibilities

Contrary to popular belief, the economy of organized crime does not benefit principally in those countries where it operates most freely. The main profits from such businesses go to the first-world nations that are the final destinations of the products and services of the criminal groups. This revelation from the United Nations, is very important for Mexico because it means the responsibility for the cost of fighting crime is not equally shared with those who shed blood and suffer deterioration of their society. The countries that produce the major part of the illegal drugs in the world are those that receive the most attention and criticism, but the profits go to the rich countries that are the recipients of those products, according to a study of global crime. Analysis shows that 70% of the 72 billion dollars generated annually in cocaine traffic stays in the rich countries.

Independent of the numbers and percentages, there remain questions that specialists have made: Can there be an armed victory against the cartels when tons of drugs are seized in Mexico, but at the same time, money laundering continues in the US? Can human trafficking for sexual exploitation in Latin America be stopped when, in Europe, the pimps have a thriving business? Obviously not. While the business in those countries continues untouched, traffickers, hired killers and crime bosses will exist.

For decades, Europe and the United States have pointed to the corruption in developing countries as the main cause of transnational crime by which they exempt themselves from blame. The case of Mexico and its struggle against narcotraffic makes this unequal relationship most clear. The northern neighbor fails to control the sales of arms that end up in the hands of the cartels; it doesn’t stop the operation of cartels in its border cities and it has done nearly nothing to reduce the drug consumption of its citizens. Why then do the dirty work for the US?

The risk is that, facing the innocuous European and US anti-crime fight, the rest of the countries might relinquish combatting the problem. That would be the worst case because it would permit crime to normalize its presence in the “third world.” The developed countries must do much more than they are doing or face the penalty of crime eventually becoming tolerated and normal outside their borders.

An armed confrontation between the Mexican Army and a band of presumed narcotraffickers took place in a small village some eight miles from Tepic, the capital city of Nayarit, resulting in five deaths. One of those killed was a soldier. There were also six soldiers wounded, two of them gravely. During the past week in that area, seven people were found executed. [Up until recently, Nayarit has been spared the violence of its neighboring states.]

Child migration continues

San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora – The director of Integral Family Development (DIF) in Sonora, John Swanson, revealed that more children continue to attempt crossing the border illegally into the US, risking their lives in order to reunite with their families or to seek employment. The trend of child migrants has continued its flow through the Arizona border, particularly in the areas of Nogales, Agua Prieta and San Luis Rio Colorado. In 2009, 7,600 minors, ranging from children to adolescents, were repatriated by DIF, the majority through Nogales. Swanson pointed out the great risk the children run in crossing the border without an adult. ”We have found children who crossed the desert completely alone. Fortunately they have been rescued by the Border Patrol. We receive them here in Sonora and endeavor to reunite them with their families,” he said. The states of Sonora, Oaxaca, Guerrero and Jalisco are the main sources of the migrant children.

The border state of Nuevo Leon beat its own record for mob killings yesterday (Thursday) with 13 deaths. The state has had continuing turf wars among drug traffickers. Nine attackers and three soldiers were killed in a gun fight along the border with Texas, the Mexican Army reported. The Mexican Defense Department said that a military patrol was attacked near an artificial lake across from Rio Bravo, Texas. The area has been troubled by turf wars between the Gulf cartel and Los Zetas.

An armed group executed the mayor of Guadalupe Distrito Bravo, a suburb of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua. The mayor, 48, who lived in Cd. Juarez, was at home when the armed men broke into his house and shot him in front of his family. No arrests have been made

Mysterious armed attacks against illegal in southern Arizona

Phoenix – Undocumented immigrants and presumed drug traffickers are being attacked by gunfire from unknown assailants in the desert areas of southern Arizona. A series of incidents have the authorities bewildered. The Sheriff’s Department of Santa Cruz County, along the border with Mexico, has reported more than 50 attacks since April, 2008, to date. In these events, some 12 immigrants have received bullet wounds and at least three have died. To the north, in Pinal County, another series of armed incidents have been reported, presumably between undocumenteds or narcotraffickers. Last June 11, two Mexicans, presumed to have been carrying drugs on their backs, were killed by gunfire in an area of Pinal County, some 80 miles from the border. Farther south the same day, a group of five undocumenteds were ambushed by two men dressed in camouflage clothing near the community of Rio Rico, between Nogales and Tucson. The attacks remain a mystery.

Growing emigration from Africa into Mexico

Tuxtla Gutierrez, (Chiapas, Mexico) – Mexico has noticed a rising number of Africans from the Horn of Africa coming across its borders headed to the United States.

The exodus of Africans has expanded while the economic situation in the U.S. has slowed the number of Central Americans migrating to the United States, according to Jorge Humberto Yzar, of the Instituto Nacional de Migracion, in the Mexican State of Chiapas on the border of Guatemala.

In the first trimester of this year, Mexico detected 400 migrants originally from the Horn of Africa entering into Mexico destined to the United States. The Horn of Africa is one of the poorest regions of the world. “One hundred and eighty –four of the Africans were from Eritrea, 47 from Ethiopia, and 165 were from Somalia”, says Yzar.

The official didn’t disclose figures detailing the entries of Africans during the second trimester. African migrants from Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia cannot be repatriated to their countries due to the conditions of poverty and insecurity in those countries, according to a humanitarian treaty signed by Mexico with the United Nations High Commission on Refugees.

“Under that International Treaty, we have to offer immigrants from those countries an opportunity to immigrate legally into this country or to offer safe passage for a period of 30 days, a period in which they may continue travel to the border of the United States,” confirmed Yzar.

The huge presence of African migrants has caught the attention of the whole border city of Tapachula, Chiapas, although the migrants have not affected the peace and security of the city.

Around 500.000 migrants, the major portion of which are Central Americans, cross into Mexico annually to cross into the United States, estimates the Mexican Human Rights Commission.

The city of Fremont, Nebraska approves anti-immigrant law

The residents of Fremont, Nebraska, gave the green light in the ballot box to a law similar to Arizona’s law that punishes migrants.

The law calls for the verification of legal status of anyone who works or lives in the city. It was approved by 57% of the vote. Only 45% of the registered voters participated.

The ordinance prohibits the lodging, renting or leasing residences to undocumented persons.

Before knowing the results last night, the Mayor, Donald “Skip” Edwards (who proposed a similar measure in 2008) guaranteed the will of the people.

Councilman Scott Getzschman, one of the principal backers of the measure, said the measure proves that “The people are tired of illegal immigration.”

According to Census figures, 25,500 people live in Fremont, 4.3 % of which are Hispanic and 30% of those were born in the United States.

The Pew Hispanic Research Center says that less than 1% of the residents of Fremont are undocumented.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) promised judicial action to prevent the implementation of the ordinance.

“This ordinance in not only against the Federal law but goes against the United States Values of justice and equality,” declared Laurel Marsh, Executive Director of the ACLU in Nebraska.

Councilman Gary Bolton said that he feels concerned about the tremendous expenses that will be incurred defending this ordinance because it contradicts Federal Law.

Councilman Getzschman said “The people are tired because the Federal Government is not addressing the problem. It is the responsibility of the Federal Government, but the Federal Government is not doing anything so the people have to do something”. He said that this is a grass roots effort similar to initiatives in other cities in Nebraska.

Kristin Ostrom, Director of an organization in Fremont named “Nebraska is Home,” (an immigrant help group) coordinated a campaign against the ordinance and said that the debate over immigration in Fremont has gone on for two years and was initiated by outside groups.

Ostrom blamed Attorney Kris Kobach of Kansas who wrote SB-1070 for Arizona who also wrote the ordinance approved in the Fremont election.

The services of Kobach were paid by the Federation for American Immigration Reform, (FAIR) a national organization known for its anti-immigrant stance. FAIR contributed $5,000 to the campaign to pass the ordinance in Fremont.

Mexico joins suit in federal court against Arizona law

Mexico, D.F. – Mexico filed an Amicus brief in Federal Court in Arizona against SB-1070. The Secretary of Foreign Relations filed a “Friend of the Court” brief in the case of Friendly House, et. al. Vs Michael B. Whiting, et.al.

By filing the brief, Mexico aligned itself with The Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF), the National Immigration Law Center (NILC), and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in order to overturn Arizona’s recently passed SB-1070.

In its Friend of the Court Brief, Mexico asks the Federal Court to declare the law unconstitutional, to block its enforcement and declares that it is fundamental and imperative that its citizens (U.S. Citizens) observe human and civil rights when encountering citizens of Mexico wherever they may be present in the United States.
