The Next Civil War
The Gainesville Sun ^ | June 19, 2010 | LTC William Dixon, M.D.

Posted on 06/23/2010 8:20:39 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

In 1861 America fought a civil war over slavery, States’ rights and economic differences between North and South. The opening shots of a second civil war were fired one hundred years later.

War began on college campuses with rebellion against academic and civil authorities. Hostages were taken, buildings occupied. There were riots and bombings. Students and police were killed and wounded. Anarchists joined civil rights activists and so-called “peace” activists in violent anti-war, anti-capitalism riots. In common was the attack on society and the Constitution in favor of an ill-defined “just” society to be created. Civil society suppressed the foul-mouthed radical students, the anarchists and the leftists but did not defeat them.

Student leaders ducked out of public sight, moved into academia, the unions, environmentalism and charitable foundations for support. There they prospered and wove virulent anti-capitalist, anti-American political philosophies into the fabric of these organizations. They gave up violence in favor of foisting their theories of social and economic “justice” on our brightest students, on our teachers and on politicians. These radicals worked quietly behind the scenes to gain control of the media, Hollywood, the schools and colleges and the Democrat Party.

Today, a majority of CEOs of big corporations and Wall Street financial institutions (Warren Buffett, Steve Jobs of Apple, Bill Gates and the leadership of Goldman-Sachs for example!) support the Progressive agenda. The election of Obama brought these radicals back into power.

The battle lines of this new war for the future of America are now drawn. On the left, leaders of the Progressive movement are wealthy, highly educated, extremely intelligent and masterful in their use of language to advance their issues. They are guided by the belief that a group of selfless, brilliant leaders using reason and logic can perfect humanity, eliminate injustice and famine and save the earth from mankind. They are ruthless in their belief that desired ends justify any means of attaining them. They believe the Constitution is outdated and flawed, needing of change. They favor more government regulation, taxation and litigation to achieve their Utopian goals.

Opposing the political left are traditionalists who believe in the relevance of the Constitution, the enduring wisdom of the Founders, smaller government, individual freedoms and individual responsibilities. Fewer, by way of comparison, are wealthy and have degrees from Ivy League colleges. But many have wisdom gleaned from dealing with realities rather than social theories. They don’t believe that any group of leaders, selfless or otherwise, is capable of making decisions wiser than citizens would make for themselves.

Most of the Progressive leaders have shunned military service considering it best suited to those of lesser intellect. They oppose strong national defense in favor of diplomacy. They disdain patriotic displays as nationalistic and misguided. They count themselves equally American and citizens of the world. Many opposing progressives are veterans proud of military service. Most are flag-waving patriots, nationalists and believers in American exceptionalism. Many own guns and willingly defend their families and their Constitutional freedoms. Most don’t believe that achieving political ends can ever justify a wrong.

The outcome of this new civil war is in doubt. If the left prevails, America will become a social welfare democracy, following the pattern of failing European states. If traditionalists prevail, America may return to the constitutional principles which it made it the most prosperous and free nation in history. The current balance of power favors the progressive left. But, history and an understanding of economics favors the traditionalists. The rising Tea Party movement suggests the balance of power may be shifting.

“Useful” intelligence...reflects decision-making based upon accurate reading of reality. Any fool can make up a scenario, and then make the “right” decision to reinforce the illusion.(Global Warming being the prime example)

Useful intelligence results in decision-making to the benefit of the individual and community as a whole. The liberal dream-world decision-making benefits accrue to the benefit of the decision-makers at the expense of the rest of us.

A Second U.S. Civil War is almost inevitable at this point.

Who will win?

My bet is on the Right.

Dream on people. Nobody is going to do anything about all of this. Most of the incumbents won over the last few weeks. I believe Fox News said only 5 lost. Really sounds like a revolt is underway /sarc

People in here (and elsewhere) talk a lot - scream a lot - get mad - stomp their feet - and sometimes put on a good show. BUT - I can promise you that there are not enough good Americans do to anything about what is happening to our country.

They are either too lazy, too fat, too into themselves, or too occupied with their reputations to sacrifice even a dime for some revolt.

A few hundred or even a few thousand Tea Party members isn’t going to overthrow this government or any other government. They are not going to stop the tens of millions of illegals in this country. They are not going to stop the raping of America by this president or the Democratic Party. NOT going to happen.

I know everyone in here likes to post big talk and they like they pretend a revolt is near. But, lets be realistic. We all know that it isn’t going to happen.

I could come back in here ten years from now and the same people would be posting the same crap. Talking about how they are going to overthrow the government - how civil war is near - how this or that is going to happen.

The doom and gloom crowd as some like to call them.

Eh - nobody is lifting a finger. No shots will be fired. Nobody is going to take up arms.

Let’s stop pretending we live in the 1700s or 1800s - sure back then people realized they had power. Now, though? lol People could care less - the majority at least.

This nation is doomed to collapse under its own laziness. We have allowed all of our jobs to be exported. We have allowed ourselves to sail along in a sinking ship.

Occasionally a few people will stand up and proclaim this or that and talk about how bad it is getting. Then they slip into the darkness - sit back down - move on.

The ship is still sinking.

It’s over. Turn the lights out on the America we used to know.

Course - if I am wrong then I will apologize. But, I doubt I am wrong.

I disagree. I believe if the Left in this country prevails, they will create a tyrannical fascist pseudo-democracy, very unlike the current European states.

Since WWII, Europe has had connections to us to keep them free and honest (more or less...)....we've been a constitutional republican good influence, which of course is now waning (even as European freedoms are...). If we become a nanny state like their countries are--we will soon become tyrannical and dictatorial, as there is no good influence on us to reign us in--and nanny states don't work well when they are large...without dictatorial policies.

We don't have the stomach for a real civil war. Not as a society. Too few care enough to take it seriously. We're too easy to demonize.

5 Stormfronters post a YouTube video from the border and suddenly ALL militia units and border control advocates are "88" wanna-be's.

There will be no civil war. If it was even possible, we'd already be in the field fighting it...

Absolutely agree.

Too many drone on about the differences between progressives and conservatives, as if it could be remedied by simple politics. They fail to realize the overarching reality that there is a larger program taking place: mans relationship with the God of the Bible. That is an exclusive statement because truth by its very nature, is exclusive.

By not their ignorance of what this country was built on, they are unable to interpret what the liberal manifestations are in themselves: a spiritual judgment of a people having turned their back on what our forefathers accepted as self-evident: The Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Along with that, they have discarded all the promises our forefathers clung to, not to mention the specific 365 Messianic prophesies that settled in their hearts that the God of the Bible is in fact, God’s written communication to His creation.

Truth is exclusive, and it is known because it corresponds to reality: Jesus Christ died so that sinful man can be reconciled to God, and there is no other way for man to become wise.

That is how we became the greatest nation on earth. Our rejection of truth is also how we are sliding into oblivion.

I tend to agree that there will be no shooting war, simply because there is no way to securely communicate and organize. Yes, there may eventually be some brave hard-core patriots who go out in a blaze of glory, but there can no longer be organized resistance with the technology and resources the various intell agencies have nowadays.

However, there IS one way back...STATES' RIGHTS!. Get enough States together to just say NO to the crap coming out of DC, and we may have a chance. Each State has its own National Guard (yes, can be federalized - but what if the Governor said no?), and there are something like 23 State SANCTIONED militias/guards/reserves. State Guard Association of the United States, not to mention the following:

US CODE
TITLE 10, Subtitle A, PART I, CHAPTER 13 § 311 § 311. Militia: composition and classes
(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
(b) The official classes of the militia are—
(1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and
(2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia

The movement is already in gear as some 20 States are sueing against obamacare, and others are passing or considering legislation that will exclude their State from having to participate. Many States are now looking at mirroring Arizona's illegal immigration law. Plus, Obama's absurd moratorium on drilling just got shot down in court. The 9th and 10th Amendments can't be more clear.

STATE LAWSUITS and/or NULLIFICATION! NOW!

I've been revisiting the American Revolution and one thing stands out to me, the Americans were a up against a "well oiled machine" of the British army, and yet they never backed down. I get choked up when I think about Washington in his men crossing the Delaware - in the snow, many without boots, carefully maneuvering cannons across the river....it almost seemed impossible, but they never quit. We are like them now, fighting a "well oiled machine" of liberal media and the regime.

I've been thinking about this, the one thing these so called intellectuals didn't take into consideration is that we Patriots, have a fierce loyalty to this country, and we will fight to protect our way of life just like we would fight to protect our children from danger. I believe it is their gross misunderstanding of what it really is to be American that will be their downfall.

On the left, leaders of the Progressive movement are wealthy, highly educated, extremely intelligent and masterful in their use of language to advance their issues.

Horse Apples.

If they are wealthy, it is only because they are thieves. They have not produced any wealth.

They might be highly mis-educated, and the "extremely intelligent" label is a gross fabrication. College students in fields of Education, Sociology, Political Science, and any of the popular leftist Women/Ethnic Studies, come from the absolute bottom of the barrel in IQ scores and SAT scores. Thomas Sowell researched and wrote about this over two decades ago.

In the public arena, the leftists are the absolute village idiots.

Masterful in their use of language? Somewhat. Children can't lie successfully until their language skills pass some magic threshold.

So leftists (of both parties) are not smart. They are simply liars, cheats, and thieves.
