Haley win a boon for Palin, Romney

Nikki Haley may have been the big winner in South Carolina Tuesday, but she isn’t the only Republican whose star is rising in an early state that is key to winning the GOP presidential nomination.

Both Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, and Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska, were also winners in the 2012 sweepstakes. They got behind Haley at critical junctures in her campaign for governor while the rest of the potential GOP presidential field either endorsed another candidate or stayed out of the fray completely.

. . . . . .

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s pick of Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer fizzled, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum’s decision to back Rep. Gresham Barrett was slightly better and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s selection of state Attorney General Henry McMaster didn’t get him very far.

. . . . . .

One would think that “Haley” would at least be one of the keywords on this thread. LOL.

Don't call it "failed" quite yet. He still has around $450 million in the bank. ANYONE could make a credible run with that kind of cash.

Now remind us how well he did in 2008 against the most lackluster of candidates?

He had the money then, didn't he?

Romney is insincere and not a leader.

He endorsed Mike Lee today, AFTER the primary.

That's the second time he has displayed that special kind of cowardice.

His presidential aspirations are dead!

” Romney endorsed and campaigned with Haley long before Palin did.”

“Romney: I’m sticking with Haley”

That was way after Haley weathered the storm. Gov. Palin stood with her. Gov. Palin was in an ad and made robo calls telling the people to ignore the lies.

Where was Romney? In hiding during that time.

Sorry, but it is what it is. Haley not once said anything about moving in the polls because of Romney. She said Palin moved her numbers at just the right time.

Sorry. You guy has the money and that is not a bad thing.

Romney provides the money
Palin moves the poll numbers.

You need both to win an election.

It’s Politico.

When it comes to Palin they never get the facts right.

“Romney came late to the dance in my view. Saw Haley was on fire and tried to jump on in order to help him run his failed 2012 presidential campaign.”

Romney endorsed Haley on March 16th.

http://www.thestate.com/2010/03/17/1203840/romney-endorses-haley-for-governor.html

Palin endorsed Haley on May 13th.

Might want to check that prescription.

I admit I was a Romney supporter in 2008 when I should have been endorsing Thompson, but call a spade a spade. Romney was in the game way before Palin.

Romney moved the needle not one whit. Palin did, however.

That’s got to just chap The Mittster’s well-preserved hide.

Gov. Palin: I got their number.

Romney will never be President.

Nobody said Romeny didn’t endorse first.

We said that the endorsement did not move her poll numbers.

It was hardly even reported by the MSM. Haley stayed in fouth place.

When Palin endorsed Haley the latest poll had her in 4th place. She was probably starting to move. Palin endorsed and the next poll had her in first place by a lot.

The Palin endorsement put her all over the news. Lots of free press.

Palin doesn’t have Romney type money but she has star power.

Romney can give you money for ads.
Palin gives you free airtime and lots of it.

It is becaseu Romney is down right boring.

It is what it is.

Mitt’s not a risk taker. He’s his father’s boy. He’s dad wanted to be President, now Mitt is fulfilling his deceased father’s wishes.

Mitt’s idea of taking risks is putting ketchup on his hotdog.

Mitt is a conformist, corporatist institutional man. There is nothing in his record of him taking any bold actions.

No. The supposed bigoted South Carolina voters, whom last time Mitt spent more per capita than any other state, and was rejected, voted now for a female of Indian decent with allegations of infidelity.

They just don’t like Mitt. ( It’s politics, Mitt wouldn’t understand. )

Romney came late to the dance in my view. Saw Haley was on fire and tried to jump on in order to help him run his failed 2012 presidential campaign.

As others pointed out, Romney was in well before Palin.

Now, we can argue the relative merits and impacts each endorsement had, but the timing facts are undeniable.

“He followed up the early endorsement and stack of cash with a second visit to South Carolina to campaign for Haley’s runoff bid.

“[Romney] was there early for Nikki Haley,” said veteran Republican operative John Weaver, who said Haley’s win gives Romney a clear edge in South Carolina. “He helped her raise badly needed campaign funds and rebuffed his own in-state team to side with her.”

“Romney made an early and significant bet on Haley,” added Anuzis. “A victory would be perceived as a big plus.”

Palin, however, endorsed Haley—and 1st District GOP nominee Tim Scott, who also won a runoff Tuesday — only once they had become frontrunners.”
____________________________________________

There are so many lies in this Politico propaganda piece that I don’t know where to start.

Romney’s endorsement wasn’t (and isn’t) worth a pitcher of warm spit and everyone knows it. He quietly endorsed Haley when she was fourth and she stayed fourth. Contrary to the blatant lie by Politico, she was STILL FOURTH at 12% when Palin endorsed her. In one week, AFTER PALIN’S ENDORSEMENT, she surged to an 11% lead. Romney gave her the $42,000 AFTER she had surged into a virtually insurmountable lead on the back of Palin’s endorsement. And he came to campaign for her in the runoff when she was GUARANTEED to win.

He said NOTHING during the furor over Folks and Marchant, but waited (finger in the wind, as always) to see what effect it had on her polls. He rushed in only when it was safe to do so.

If you think Nikki Haley doesn’t know what the key to her victory was, you must think she is pretty naive.

The article is factual. It’s what happened. Both Palin and Romney deserve credit for their efforts.
