John Stossel / FOX Business Channel Doing VERY Pro-Concealed Carry Gun Story
Friends and Fiends At Network | John Stossel

Posted on 06/24/2010 6:44:29 AM PDT by MindBender26

Just got a heads-up from old network friend.

John Stossel is doing a VERY pro-concealed carry story on FOX Business News today. It is very statistic and reality driven vs. the traditional MSM "Chicken Little" approach to weapons.

A quote from Shossel. "I worked at the mainstream media for years, and they all swallow all the liberal lines, and it is never more apparent than in their approach to guns and the carrying of them. This story will show how wrong they are."

Do not have an air time. Remember, this is FOX Business, not FNC.

Good tagline. Breitbart might steal it if he saw it ;-)

Is this before or after he spouts off about how pot should be legal?

I liked him up until a couple weeks ago when he said people light up joints on the streets of Manhattan and the cops don't do anything about it. He's either stupid or a liar. Or both.

Careful! There are a lot of pot heads on FR that will flame you faster than they can light a joint.

I see John Stossel as an independent thinker, beholden to no one. I have admired him for years. He was on Fox & Friends this morning for a few minutes talking about the gun/crime issue. He said the mainstream media (and acknowledged his past involvement) are always promoting gun control/elimination. His story should be interesting.

Stossel is a Libertarian. I’m not. I disagree with him on drug legalization — but on other important issues, Stossel is a strong voice in support of what I do believe.

Oh, I'm awaiting the good ol "The WOD is a total failure!" crowd to show up.

I am a huge 2A and concealed carry advocate, but I take Stossel's previously referenced quote personally. It's just an absolute and total fabrication.

>>”Is this before or after he spouts off about how pot should be legal?”<<

SO, you’re saying that you’ll discount anything good he reports about CCW, firearms ownership and the right to defend ourselves just because of his opinion on legalizing pot?

I personally find that less than mature thinking on your part. And NO, I’m not a pot smoker.

Well, he's half right.

People do often smoke cannabis surreptitiously in the streets of Manhattan - but they would never dare do so in the presence of the NYPD.

Because they definitely do something about it when they see it.

See my post #10. I support the issues, but if he says things that I know are false, how can I trust anything else he says?

"Stossel is a Libertarian. I’m not. I disagree with him on drug legalization"

Actually, I could even swallow the libertarian ideology a little easier too if I could get past this issue. I can't though. It's just too tough to see a good people and their families destroyed by drugs.

It would seem foolish to throw the baby out with the dishwater. If his message and facts about CCW make those that oppose it rethink their views, haven’t we gained ground?

If you find the time and date please post it to the Banglist.

Fox Business can air it, then I will decide.

As long as the statements he makes are based on reason, and not sillyness. His “facts” about weed smoking in NYC are just wrong. So how can I believe what he says about CCW? A journalist only has their integrity.

I love your tagline!

Note: “Good people” don't use illegal drugs. Good people do, however, smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol which kills waaay more folks than smoking pot.

That’s because statists always have their pet issues where they are willing to abrogate their own principles. First of all, marijuana doesn’t destroy many people’s lives, alcohol probably wrecks more (again, why are we holding substances or objects rather than PEOPLE accountable) than almost any substance out there, even if the proportion is somewhat smaller than other drugs.

It is also interesting to note that most of the same concerns and psychological projection involved in the War on Guns is the same as that employed in the War on Drugs. Both are about freedom and in this country we had far less of a problem when both were extremely legal than we do now that they are regulated (guns) or illegal (drugs.)

Families are also destroyed by other things, ignorance, sadism, psychopathy, overeating and morbid obesity, the death of a child from an accident or illness, etc. Let’s ban and arrest millions of people to make it right!

Libertarians and Conservatives could work together very well, and make progress in a number of good areas. We really agree on a great many things.

But in my experience, the conversation starts and stops right on the drug issue. I have known a lot of Libertarians, and very, very few of them can have a civil discussion with anyone who opposes legalization of drugs.

For Democrats, it all comes down to Abortion -- that is the one issue they care about above all.
For Libertarians, it all comes down to legalized drugs.

I'm a Conservative. I try to be principled, but I also try to be pragmatic. I want smaller government. I want reduced spending. I want entitlements to go away. I'll make common cause with a lot of people. But abortion and legalized drugs are not areas where I want to "bend a little" in hopes that somewhere down the road I might get thrown a bone.

Why not focus on entitlements and try to reduce the Nanny State? Why not start there?
