Obama Picks Critic of Local Illegal Immigration Enforcement for Key Role at ICE
Fox News ^ | 6/24/2010 | Stephen Clark

Posted on 06/24/2010 9:26:53 PM PDT by Qbert

The Obama administration has tapped an outspoken critic of immigration enforcement on the local level to oversee and promote partnerships between federal and local officials.

Harold Hurtt, a former police chief in Houston and Phoenix, has been hired as the director for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Office of State and Local Coordination. Starting July 6, Hurtt will supervise outreach and communication between ICE, local law enforcement agencies, tribal leaders and representatives from non-governmental organizations.

"Chief Hurtt is a respected member of the law enforcement community and understands the concerns of local law enforcement leaders," said John Morton, the Homeland Security assistant secretary for ICE. "His experience and skills will be an invaluable asset to the ICEs outreach and coordination efforts."

But as a police chief, Hurtt was a supporter of "sanctuary city" policies, by which illegal immigrants who don't commit crimes can live without fear of exposure or detainment because police don't check for immigration papers.

He also, during his tenure as Houston police chief, criticized ICE's key program that draws on local law enforcement's support.

"There's no way you can head up an office if you don't believe in what the office is supposed to do," Curtis Collier of U.S. Border Watch, told the Houston Chronicle. "Immigration and Customs Enforcement's primary mission is to protect the American people. If this guy believes any of these programs should not be enforced, he's certainly going to be a very weak advocate for them."

It’s actually a real bumper-sticker that can be had from here: http://www.zazzle.com/jackass_bumper_sticker-128726098501822222?gl=oceander

I've got mixed feelings about your (not so) subtle marketing on FR. If it was my website, I'd give members a place where they could openly market their goods and services, but it's not my site, so I stay within the house rules.

Call it what you want, but whatever it is, it's not predominantly "marketing" in the conventional sense, and I have a bottom line (or, what's more to the point, a lack thereof) that'll prove it, in spades.

The visuals are as much substantive commentary as are the text-only posts (which I contribute as well), and are frequently more direct and to-the-point than a purely textual discourse could ever be. Case in point being the image that has apparently ticked you off.

For another example, take this image:

I'm sure you recognize the outlines of the old Shepard Fairey cult-worship poster for Obuttocks, and I'm sure you recognize the color-scheme used by BP for its branding, and I would postulate that that image - although another term for it might be a visual ideograph, drawing on the work of McGee, and others, regarding so-called "coded" ideologically-driven language - both conveys the proposition that Obama's incompetent, inadequate response to the BP oil spill has demonstrated beyond peradventure that he is a failure of epic proportions - proportionate to the hero-worship that was originally heaped apon him by the likes of Shepard Fairey with his original worship-poster - and that it "states" that proposition in a much more compact manner than the mess of verbiage I just used, and does so in a more visceral manner that triggers not just the portion of the surface of the intellect where language, written or spoken, is parsed, but also those deeper levels of the consciousness and mind of the viewer - whether the viewer approves of that message or disapproves.

I strive to integrate the two, and I take some pains to make sure that I'm not just pimping on any particular thread, and I have several times chosen not to simply post an image because it didn't bear a sufficient enough relationship to the thread in question.

Beyond that, I stick to the limits the mods and admins ask us to stick to - they're not shy about saying when they think the line's been crossed and when they bring something to my attention I am more than happy to change whatever it is they're objecting to. I am quite well aware of the fact that, if I don't like something they ask me to do, I am perfectly free to go elsewhere - so far, I haven't felt the need to do so. They're blunt, but they're fair, and I can respect that and comply with it even if I don't always agree with it 100%. That includes not providing any links to where some of my images can be had on bumper-stickers unless I'm asked for it, or I feel that the point was legitimately referred to, as in this instance.

Finally, and with all due respect, if it bothers you, you're more than welcome to simply ignore me. I'm sure any number of otherwise reasonable, rational souls have already done that, so I'm sure you'd be in good company if you chose to do likewise.

Source: Administration Weighs Bypassing Congress to Let ALL Illegal Immigrants Stay

The Obama administration has been holding behind-the-scenes talks to determine whether the Department of Homeland Security can unilaterally grant legal status on a mass basis to illegal immigrants, a former Bush administration official who spoke with at least three people involved in those talks told FoxNews.com.

The issue was raised publicly by eight Republican senators who wrote to the White House on Monday to complain that they had heard the administration was readying a “Plan B” in case a comprehensive immigration reform bill cannot win enough support to clear Congress.

The White House would not confirm or deny the claim. But the former Bush official said the discussions are real.

“The administration at the very minimum is studying legal ways to legalize people without having to go through any congressional debate about it,” the source said, calling the senators’ claim credible.

That’s a mighty lengthy post. Much bigger than any I’ve ever seen from you, and far more extensive a reply than my post to you should warrant.

Methinks thou doth protest too much.

I never said that I was “ticked off”. I said that I had mixed feelings about your marketing here (which you are doing).

“The White House would not confirm or deny the claim.”

So, in other words...yes, the talks are taking place.

Indeed, it would also appear that Mr. Hurtt wants a surveillance society, even going so far as to advocate for camera’s inside private residences!

Oceander's posts, until recently, all had links to where one could but the stickers. I'm guessing the mods gave him notice and he's just been waiting to post that response for some time.

Personally, I like his stuff. I wish I could do it too but I can't seem to be able to come up with something that doesn't say, "I've seen that somewhere before."

When he first started posting I thought the he had gotten permission to link to his zazzle page but now it's obvious the mods put a stop to it.

My two cents.
