GREECE, N.Y. -- One of three suspects in a triple slaying at an apartment complex near Rochester was charged with first-degree murder Friday, a day after pleading not guilty to helping distribute at least 2,200 pounds of marijuana in western New York.
The suspects, all three Jamaican natives, were tracked to a house in Arizona on March 18, nine days after three other Jamaican men were found shot to death in an apartment in the Rochester suburb of Greece.
On Friday, Richard Anderson, 45, an illegal immigrant who had twice been deported to his home country, pleaded not guilty at an arraignment to first- and second-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping.
Authorities declined to give specifics about the kidnapping of one victim, Christopher Green, and said the murder investigation was continuing and others may be charged. Anderson "could be the triggerman or he could have been acting in concert with the actual triggerman," Monroe County District Attorney Mike Green said.
"Based on what the police found at the scene, there was specific evidence indicating that (Christopher) Green was abducted, that he was restrained in a manner that the other two were not," the prosecutor added.
If convicted, Anderson could be sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Killed along with 40-year-old Green were Robert Moncriffe, 29, and Mark Wisdom, 38.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Everado Rodriguez said "the suspects and the victims were acquainted in some form." Rodriguez did not provide any further details.
The other two men investigated in the slayings, Aston Johnson, 41, and Andrew Wright, 40, were accused in a federal indictment along with Anderson and four other people of taking part in a marijuana-trafficking conspiracy between January 2008 and last March.
Anderson pleaded not guilty Thursday to the drug charges, which carry sentences ranging from 10 years to life in prison.
Court officials said Johnson and Wright, who also was charged last month with assaulting a guard at the federal detention center in nearby Batavia, will be arraigned on the drug charges in the next few days. Their lawyers declined to comment.

Jamaican druggies are some of the most vicious killers from what I have read in the past. So maybe we are rid of a few.
