on the urgency to allow Chicago to govern its own streets. When incompetents are in charge all the power in the world can't keep the streets safe.

Hey Mike! Your ban does not affect any of the illegal guns in Chicago. It only removes them from the hands of your bosses, the law abiding citizens, who need them to protect themselves from the like of you!

"...a much larger and more alarming one looms: Will Congress finally heed the call to enact common-sense gun legislation that would keep weapons out of the hands of the most dangerous segments of society?"You mean members of Congress won't be allowed to own guns??

Today, there is sensible, bi-partisan legislation before Congress that would close the gun show loophole which inexplicably permits felons, terrorists, and the mentally ill to purchase weapons without a background check. How about introducing legislation that closes the loophole which inexplicably permits felons, terrorists, and the mentally ill from elected office??? Particularly the Presidency!

sensible restrictions In government speech this means a total prohibition from anyone not employeed by the government.
Actually Chicago deserves all the crap it gets. Chicago voters elected the two tyrants Quigley and Daly. They should suffer the consequences.

We knew it was illegal when they first banned guns years ago!

When illegal guns flood our streets, precious lives are lost and communities are destroyed. Especially when there are no legal guns.

When illegal guns flood our streets, precious lives are lost and communities are destroyed. So then the opposite must also be true, RE: legal guns, right Quigley?

...on the urgency to allow Chicago to govern its own streets. Funny how the left doesn't have a problem denying states the right "to govern their own streets" for controlling criminal immigrants.
To: greatdefender
Under Mayor Daleys leadership, the City of Chicago will now look to enact reasonable restrictions on gun ownership to make it as safe as possible Given that Daley's current laws were struck down and his new laws will be "reasonable," is he admitting that the current laws are unreasonable?
To: greatdefender
I’ll agree to compromise. They can have their check for ALL transfers, if I can have an assurance that no government records are kept about the purchaser.
The seller must call the background check agency to see if the buyer is qualified, but no information is conveyed to the agency about what is being purchased.
Better still, make it like buying liquor. Every state driver’s license can have a special endorsement for DISqualified purchasers. Flash the ID, pay cash. Just like liquor.
Some might not like my compromise, but the real point is that if this is shoved in the face of every gun grabber worried about the “gun-show loophole”, it will reveal them to be bent on a scheme that is engineered for confiscation.
