I have lived in L.A. for 57 years. I can tell you that, based on direct knowledge of the area, Maywood has been a SEWER since the late sixties, if not before — this, even before the Mexican invasion totally took over.

Mexicans have taken over ALL the various older, poorer suburbs, whether they are technically part of City of L.A. or are independent towns. One town abuts the next; there is no way to differentiate unless one sees a sign.

Blacks have long bemoaned being driven from their neighborhoods. Those who could do so moved to Antelope Valley, Riverside County, other areas of L.A. or even to Vegas. Watts is mostly Mexican.

LAUSD, that massive bankrupt mess of a school district, is hispanic. Teachers I know, both full time and substitutes, tell me the kids just don’t have it in them to actually learn anything. If a substitute goes to a school with whites/Asians (a rarity), he/she feels like he has entered another planet. I’ve heard it said that one elementary school’s kids (in a ‘good’ area— were like “Little Einsteins.”) The teacher felt like he’d died and gone to heaven. His whole day was not spent in frustration due to yelling at kids to stop acting up, intervening in fights, etc.

Education is not important in the culture of the hispanics (Mexicans.) Some of them get jobs and buy homes because yes, they do jobs others do not do — not that others WOULD not do those jobs, but most simply do not. Boys in L.A. are hard pressed to find summer jobs helping out in construction, yardwork, etc., because the Mexicans have all those jobs and stand on corners to get them. Black and white and Asian boys do not stand on street corners hoping to be picked up for day jobs. They would have to find the jobs via other means before doing them. They used to get those jobs by word of mouth or ads or similar. But employers choose instead to drive around and pay very little to day laborers. THEY should be penalized for this practice. It is accurate to say most day laborers are illegals.

So long as this immigration scourage continues and spreads throughout the nation, situations like that in Maywood, CA, will continue without letup.

Thank you for you perspective. I grew up in a predominantly Mexican neighborhood in Tempe, AZ in the ‘60’s. The elementary school I went to was probably 80% Chicano (the popular term back then). Illegals were looked down on. The Mexicans that lived in the neighborhood were striving to gain the American dream.

Now, it’s entirely different. I remember one friend (of Mexican decent) in particular who became a fan of Cesar Chavez and suddenly decided I was the enemy because I was “white”. Ironically, my grandmother’s family were migrant farm workers moving between Texas and Arizona. My friend’s family were bankers.

A friend of mine is married to a Mexican. His parents are both doctors in Mexico and he has a masters degree and is a financial analyst at a prestigious company. He’s the nicest guy - and very conservative - so probably a lot of it is a class thing.

Mexicans illegally in this country had no ancestors who lived in these United States. I've offered the challenge to hundreds of them. The handful of Mexicans who lived here when the US bought that land from Mexico left no descendants in Mexico, especially the southern area and Central America where most illegals now come from. NO, they became AMERICANS. Their progeny are citizens.

This country is sacred land to we NATIVE born citizens, most of us with long historical ancestry. We don't take lightly being told we don't belong here, but you invaders do.

I have family who pioneered, built and died defending this country, many were indigenous as you claim to be, buried in Massachusetts, New York, Washington DC, Virginia, Ohio, Missouri, Georgia, Arkansas,Tennessee, Oklahoma Indian Territory, Texas, Kansas, Oregon, California, Arizona, New Mexico, South Carolina, North Carolina, Utah. There are a couple buried in Mexico.

Now, show me yours. Where do your ancestors rest?

Know this, we will protect this sacred ground. There are millions more of us than you and you can't have enough anchor babies to change it before my fellow Americans get enough of your "attitude". Go back to the third world you wish to impose on us and take your dream of colonizing my country with you. The sooner the better.

It’s a sad story, but there is a lesson to be learned for municipalities in any of the states with massive state budget deficits.
THe lesson is this:
“The first municipalities to dissolve will be the only ones to receive help from the county and state coffers. Once the horse leaves the barn, there will be no further aid available for the laggards who tried to hold out.”

It could be a class thing, only I never told her about my grandmothers family (who were also native American, ironically). The thing was, we had been friends since we were little. Her identity as a Chicano came between our friendship.

I have another friend from elementary school whose grandparents raised her. They opened a Mexican food restaurant. I loved hanging around with her and her family. We still talk to each other once in a while.

AuntB, good stuff. A Mexican is a hybrid race, it is a Spaniard Conquistador who mated with the local Indians. You have Spaniards and you have Indians. The original inhabitants were American Indians who some believe crossed over the North American land mass from Russia. Will this takeover of America ever stop? I doubt it. American white males have been neutered.
