President Obama is reviving the thorny issue of immigration this week. He sent administration officials to Arizona on Monday to advertise his efforts on border security, while he is encouraging supporters of an immigration overhaul to focus their ire on Republicans as the cause for the legislations stall in Congress.
Taking a break from the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Mr. Obama summoned Latino leaders and immigrant advocates on short notice for a 45minute White House meeting on Monday, and he met Tuesday with members of the House Congressional Hispanic Caucus. Also Tuesday, the White House announced that Mr. Obama will make a major speech on immigration on Thursday at American University in Washington.

Although White House officials do not said it explicitly, Democratic lawmakers acknowledge that the immigration overhaul will not happen before the mid-term elections in November. Now, the White House is seeking to hold on to Latino voterswho turned out for Mr. Obama in record numbers in 2008despite their frustration with the inaction on the legislation, which would give legal status to millions of illegal immigrants.
Mr. Obama told the advocates that he had called a number of Republican senators seeking their support for the bill, which is being written by Senator Charles E. Schumer, Democrat from New York. But Mr. Obama said the Republicans appeared determined not to provide any votes for the measure, several participants said.

The November vote is also shaping immigration politics for Republicans. They have backed off from the overhaul in part to help Senator John McCain of Arizona, who turned away from his former support for legalization measures in the face of a primary challenge from J.D. Hayworth, an outspoken critic of illegal immigrants.

Ping!
The only way socialists can even hope of winning power again is to bring in the third world, ignorant peasants. Thirty millions voerts for socialist equals amnesty.
Rinos love that.
“30 million”?
Try 100 million. They are here. THOUSANDS are crossing the border at every possible entrance - every single day and night. I am SO tired of the number 12 million (from ten years ago.)
And they have no respect for our land, our language, our people or our laws. If they aren’t here to bring drugs, they are here to get all the bennies that our tax dollars are paying for.
Jan Brewer has a TON of support, and not just from Arizonans. It’s coming from all over the country. Brewer is getting beaten up pretty badly by the administration, but Americans love an underdog and they don’t like illegal aliens. This entire AZ thing is NOT helpful to the administration nor to the rats in the 2010 election. The more they go after her and the AZ law, the worse it’s going to bite them in the ass. It also isn’t helpful to McShame’s re-election effort because the obvious contrast one draws between McShame and Brewer (ie, JD’s position also) on this very important subject is stark. JD needs to work this point more than he has by prodigously reminding voters of the Kennedy-McCain shamnesty debacle.
The lady is a heroine. JD should style his political ads to align with Governor Brewer’s position in a very clear, classy way.
Jan Brewer, you go girl!!!
prodigously=prodigiously
And Gov. Brewer shot holes all through those efforts in her news presser!
Exactly right. And the Mexicans know and will be told to support the democrats because of the amnesty that’s forthcoming. The dems will probably win in November with all the illegal votes and ACORN voter fraud already instituted under W.
