She forgot one VERY important word — “These are anaerobic, DECAYED flesh-eating larvae...”
While maggot are gross, they are hardly ‘dangerous’ to humans... These folks would all be freaked out if they discovered that maggots are used to clean wounds of decayed flesh — even today... IN hospitals (yes, even here in the US!). They eat the bad, and leave the good — a better job of cleaning a wound than anything else...
Not saying the *I* wouldn’t be equally as grossed out as those on the plane, or that they should have just sucked it up, of course...
