WORLD cricket was torn along racial lines last night as former Australian prime minister John Howard's bid to be the game's international boss was torpedoed.

Mr Howard's only supporters in the 10 major cricket nations were Australia, New Zealand and England, reinforcing the power of the Afro-Asia bloc.

Australia's once powerful position has evaporated as the game's new world order continues to flex its muscles.

Six nations signed a letter opposing Mr Howard, and his candidacy was dead when all-powerful India decided to block his nomination.

Mr Howard paid the price for standing up to Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe when, as prime minister, he banned Australia from touring Zimbabwe in 2007.

Mr Howard said he was disappointed by the decision.

"Everyone in Australia knows how much I love cricket, I think I could have brought to this job an enormous amount of administrative experience," he told Sky News.

"I'm doubly disappointed because I haven't been told why."

He said if the decision was affected by his government's policies regarding the Mugabi regime, he would wear that as a "badge of honour".

It seems that Mr Howard is right to be proud of Comrade Mugabe's hatred of him.I wouldn't think that Mugabe would have much influence in India but he might in other parts of the cricket world.

Maybe the rejection was because he’s not that good a cricketer :^)

"he’s not that good a cricketer"

Your being very kind to Mr Howard - after that hilarious attempt he made at bowling in Pakistan I would suggest that he is not a cricketer at all. (he was a great PM but)
