TRENDING: Bennett: Republicans need to present more ideas
CNN ^ | June 30th, 2010 | Alexander Mooney

Republican Sen. Bob Bennett – the first incumbent senator this cycle to fall victim to a primary challenge – says his party isn't doing a good job of advancing substantive ideas.

"As I look out at the political landscape now, I find plenty of slogans on the Republican side, but not very many ideas," Bennett told The Ripon Society, a Republican think tank in Washington.

"The concern I have is that ideology and a demand for absolute party purity endangers our ability to govern once we get into office," Bennett also said in his speech Wednesday.

Facing significant anger aimed at Washington and at some of his past votes, the three-term senator was eliminated last month from seeking re-election to a fourth term, becoming the first incumbent to fall victim to the growing anti-Washington mood ahead of the 2010 mid-term elections.

Removing regulation and taxes from small business is a good start.

De-funding education on the federal level is good.

Uh, there are plenty of great ideas. We just need elected officials to effectively present them. That’s why the people dumped you on your ass, Bennett.

[but not very many ideas]

How about this idea: stop spending.
Or this one: Follow the Constitution.

I don’t know why this is so hard for some people to grasp.

Here’s some ideas. How about across the board tax cuts, incentives to business (especially small ones) for hiring. Massive spending cuts along with a buildup of our military in these dangerous times. Secure the borders and jail anyone who hires an illegal. Hold ALL politicians accountable for their corruption and crimes. And did I mention STOP SPENDING MONEY WE DON’T HAVE!
Even a teenager can understand that.

That’s just for starters.

Ideas? Bennett..I’ll give you ideas...if we paid each Congresscritter and Senator ONE BILLION dollars each ...anually...to stay at home and shut their mouth...535 billion/yr...the American people and their States would come out ahead at the end of each year. That’s just for starters-Bennett..

Here is a great idea, never tried even by Reagan:

Slash government employees’ compensation, benefits, pensions.

Not a Bennett fan by any means but if he's aiming his remarks toward McConnell and Boehner he's right on target. These two are totally bereft of ideas or leadership. I can't imagine these two as standard bearers of the “new” GOP.

Too many Republicans feel they have to offer alternative “ideas” to the savage attacks of the Left on Constitutional govt. The only “idea” they should be offering is a return to the limited govt. clearly delineated in the Constitution. All our fiscal problems are due to unconstitutional activities, which includes most of what the Federal govt. does these days.

There are some good GOP ideas out there; the problem is not enough GOPers are willing to stomp on democrats’ toes to make them heard.

Here’s an idea:

Part time congress - busy itself defunding and dismantling unconbstitutional departments and agencies.
