OUSTON (KTRK) -- Two would-be burglars are in police custody thanks to the quick actions of a 15-year-old.

More: Got a story idea? Let us know! One suspect is in jail, and the other is at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Kinzy Evans, 17, is still hospitalized. Charges against him are pending. The second suspect, a 16-year-old male juvenile, has been charged with burglary.
Investigators say they aren't sure whether Evans is going to make it. He was shot in both his legs and face by a 15-year-old who detectives say feared for his safety and the safety of his sister.
It happened at a home on Royal Place Court in northwest Harris County at around 2:30pm Tuesday.
"All he said was, 'Anybody seriously hurt?' and he said, 'Oh yeah, definitely,'" neighbor Renee Thompson said.
The blood on the driveway told a burglary-gone-bad story.
Deputies say the suspects broke into the home through a back window. From upstairs, the 15-year-old -- who was home with his 12-year-old sister -- heard the breaking glass and grabbed his father's automatic rifle. The burglary was soon over.
Family members rushed to the home, but the children's father, Vince Guerra, had beaten them all there. He's a Harris County Pct. 1 deputy constable and was on duty when it happened. No wonder his son knew what to do.
"We don't try to hide things from our children, and we try to give them a perspective about the way things are," Harris County Sheriff's Office Lt. Jeff Stauber said.
Within an hour, both Evans and the juvenile were in custody; they were caught at a nearby hospital while seeking help.
The juvenile was brought back to the scene, where deputies checked him for evidence and collected the rifle.
Neighbors backed what the 15-year-old did.

Splash two bogeys!
I’m glad this isn’t a story about the bad things that happened to this young man and his little sister if he hadn’t known what to do to protect them, and how to do it.
It took courage to do what he did. Bless him.
Hopefully, if he has a car, his dad will let him paint two dirtbags on the driver’s door.
Outstanding!
Nice shootin', son.
I'm fairly confident it wasn't an automatic rifle, a semi-automatic rifle perhaps, but not an automatic rifle.
We probably should be thankful it wasn't described by the gun-hating journalist as an AK-47.
Idiot press or did the father have a class 3 license. Let's hope it's just a semi-auto because I would hate to see a full auto permanently disappear into the police evidence locker.
“Burglary-gone-bad story”...
Hey NITWITS, if it’s a “BURGLARY”, it’s ALREADY “BAD”!!!
If an AR, as in AR-15, the most common semi-auto copy of the military version “assault weapon” in civilian hands, then the round was most likely a Full Metal Jacket of maybe 55 grain weight.
A face shot would penetrate the whole head, exiting the back of skull and if not a brain or spine penetrating wound may allow the “perp” to survive.
Sucks to be him....
Personally, I think this is a good outcome of a burglary.
“Splash two bogeys!”
Their Momma and Pappa never taught them about respect.
“Life” is a cruel teacher. “Life” doesn’t give a rats *ss about “self-esteem”.
If it was full auto, whether it be an M16 or M4, there would have been nothing left of the perps head but a red mist. Leave it to the dinosaur media to try & demonize a 15 yr. old protecting & saving his life over that of two scum.
