Production resumed Wednesday at a manufacturing plant in Fullerton after an immigration raid that resulted in the arrests of 43 workers and the temporary shutdown of the facility.

Employers at Terra Universal Inc., which produces equipment for semiconductor and pharmaceutical manufacturers, spent the day reassuring customers, checking employees' documents and questioning why they were targeted, according to the company's attorney.

Chief Operating Officer Ken Harms said the raid took him by surprise and disrupted the entire plant. "It was completely unexpected," he said.

Immigration agents executed a search warrant at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday as part of an ongoing criminal investigation, according to Lori Haley, a spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Haley declined to specify what agents were investigating but said the operation was conducted in a professional manner.

Don’t employers require an I-9 or whatever the form is that proves the employee is either a citizen or is legally in the country?

We used background checks and E-verify.

BUT, If they have a legitimate SSN and Driver's license they will pass.

That doesn't mean the same SSN is not being used in 12 other States...

Well, it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to suggest that it just might have had something to do with the fact that you guys had 43 illegals working for you. Duh!

I worked for a national charity, and we checked even the volunteers. I’m sure that if the name and SSN didn’t match, it would have been caught by the criminal background check.

Hmmmm. This is a tough one. Maybe ..... maybe it had something to do with the 43 illegals arrested?

That’s the money line. We have all these illegals but who expected anyone would care?

In most of these raids, nothing is said about the pay levels the illegals are receiving. If this plant had 43 illegals whom were arrested and was able to resume production in short order suggests this was a very substantial operation with pay scales above the minimum wage - poking holes in the excuse that these are jobs Americans refuse to do.

Hopefully, this will send a message to other employers in the area that it is not alright to hire illegals. Hopefully, Terra now has jobs for 43 ‘real’ Americans in this Obummer economy.

Ah, Mr. Harms maybe you pissed someone off and they dropped a dime on ICE.

I know, right? Is it ignorance or arrogance?

Now THAT is a major problem with the system, if true. The system that records John Doe with SSN xxx-xx-xxxx as living in California and also allows the same SSN to be living in 12 other states is a useless system. That should be a big red flag.

Now I agree that illegals should not be employed. They are per se not eligible.

However the use of the social security system as identification bothers me some. I have my original SS card (unlike most people) and it clearly says “not to be used for identification”. How and when did that rule change, I wonder?

Now you can’t do anything without your SS number.

The answer is because Obama needed a convenient enforcement hit in advance of his amnesty speech.
