Over Byrd's career, he brought home 3.3 bil in pork.

Considering all of the federal buildings and operations he moved to V.VA (I seem to recall some sort of FBI crime lab for one,) not to mention highway and bridge projects, that number seems awfully low.

Will he be allowed to vote today? He’s been voting from the grave for years.

There should be a white sheet over his casket.

Too bad the pointy white hat won’t fit in the casket.

Here he is speaking in a rare lucid moment.

“ I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side… Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.”

— Robert C. Byrd, refusing military service in a letter to (then) Sen. Theodore Bilbo (D-MS), 1944
