U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) announced the launch Wednesday of “Operation In Our Sites,” a new initiative aimed at Internet counterfeiting and piracy. In the first action carried out as part of the initiative, authorities seized nine domain names of Web sites that were offering first-run movies, often within hours of their theatrical release. Seven of those sites were targeted for seizure by the SDNY. Agents from ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) also seized assets from 15 bank, Paypal, investment and advertising accounts, and executed four residential search warrants in several states.

ICE Assistant Secretary John Morton, joined on a Los Angeles soundstage by senior representatives from major movie studios, entertainment unions and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), made clear that the theft of such intellectual property is a serious crime and one the U.S. government has made a priority combating

First let me say that I do not condone internet counterfeiting and piracy. However, it is no wonder that we do not have enough border patrol personnel ON the border when they are using them for this type of operation.
Again from above, "the theft of such intellectual property is a serious crime and one the U.S. government has made a priority combating."

Too bad ICE isn't being used in a 'priority' way at the border or for processing illegals out of our country.

Homeland Security has sat in on these copyright enforcement meetings.

Hollywood owns the legislature. They are gunning for their very own FBI type law enforcement agency.

Misplaced priorities.

The moles who release these films are inside the studios, they aren't just filming the movies off the screen.

let me get this straight...

Securing the border... unenforceable...

Securing the Internet... easily done...

Or how about the fact that going after copyright infringers used to be a purely civil act? You infringe on my copyright, I sue you. That was too inconvenient for the copyright cartel, so they paid-off Congress to turn the FBI into their own little copyright enforcement department.

Amazing: they can track down illegal websites, but not illegals flooding our borders.

I think their priorities are out of whack.

"targeting pirate Web sites run by people who have no respect for creativity and innovation,” said ICE Assistant Secretary Morton"

What a stupid statement. If I steal a painting, it's BECAUSE I respect its creativity and innovation. What I don't respect is the law.

Why don’t these people start deporting illegals instead of worrying about who’s running movies on which website!!!
