Washingtons biggest lobbying firm has acquired the Breaux-Lott Leadership Group, a smaller firm started by two former senators in 2008.
Patton Boggs, which reported $78.1 million in lobbying revenue in 2009, counts among its clients Halliburton, Bristol Myers Squib and the Mars candy company.
Breaux-Lott, started by former Louisiana Senator John Breaux and former Senate Majority Trent Lott and their sons, represented Chevron, Diageo and Goldman Sachs.
I think theyre at a point where they need to continue to grow, Managing Partner Stuart Pape told POLITICO. They need the substantial additional resources that we can provide, and thats why the marriage happened.
Breaux worked for Patton Boggs immediately after retiring from the Senate in 2005. In 2008, he left the firm to start Breaux-Lott with the former Mississippi senator. Lott retired from the Senate in 2007.
We will continue to provide boutique-level personal attention to our clients with the added benefit of the wide-ranging policy, legal and business services that only Patton Boggs can provide, Breaux said in a statement.
Lott called Patton Boggs one of the most respected and revered law firms in the nation.
Pape said the former senators will continue to contribute as much as they did at their own group. They will be even more active than they have been, he said. These are continue-to-work arrangements, not retirement arrangements.
My title addition should read:
(biggest lobbying firm getting bigger)
“.....but you have made it a den of thieves”
Exactly what they are ..
What happened to Blow?
...this is a great example of how Washington is in-bred...Patton-Boggs is headed up by Hale Boggs Jr, son of the late Congressman Hale Boggs and his wife Lindy Boggs, who herself served in Congress....he’s also the brother of Cokie Roberts who used to spout the Lefty line on PBS...I guess the point I’m trying to make here is people that go to Washington stay on and on, as do their children and grandchildren ect....it’s a whole ruling class all to itself...and with them there is really only one party....the party of incumbancy.
” What happened to Blow? “
Are you kidding?
They rake in almost 80 million a year, buying politicians.
They DON’T NEED to sell cocaine! ;-)
As much as most around here love to diss him, Ross Perot was right about those lobbyist in “thousand dollar suits and Gucci shoes”. He’s the only one who ever effectively shone the light on the cockroaches and the revolving door.
But maybe these are some of the more ‘ethical’ lobbyists. There is a pretty impressive list of sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, and even spouses of sitting members of Congress who are also in the lobbying business.
Yup .. the Culture of Nepotism and Corruption and HUGE pensions .. and it’s on ALL sides, including media spouses. oh, and, of course, this admin is focused on ethics and transparency ............... NOT!
“former Louisiana Senator John Breaux and former Senate Majority Trent Lott and their sons,”
This is what is wrong with our country in a nutshell. Just replace the names and the relationships with any others and it would still be as bad.
An I’ll be back bump...
What happened to Blow?
George Blow retired in 1993 and his named was removed from the company title.
