NYT's Brooks enjoys White House audience
Yahoo News ^ | 7/6/2010 | Michael Calderone

Columnist David Brooks has a reputation for being every liberal's favorite conservative. It's a debatable moniker, but it does seem to fit so far as the White House is concerned.

The Obama administration has courted centrist to left-leaning pundits since coming to Washington. White House officials regularly make advisers and experts available to liberal columnists on deadline. They've also held several off-the-record lunches with the president during major policy rollouts.

Brooks is one conservative among the White House favorites.

(SNIP!)

Brooks' favorite soundtrack these days also seems entirely apt for the even-tempered columnist: "Sense and Sensibility."

His a conservative like Powell is a republican.
Powell has been very quiet of late. Maybe he even regrets his racist vote for Obama.

I agree. I would call him a moderate, center-leftist with a terrible man-crush on Obama.

He is smart and sounds sensible at times but deep in your gut you know he really cannot stand conservatives. He is not comfortable around true conservatives and seems to bash the right just as much as his sidekick Mark Shields does on PBS’s Friday night news hour.

” ... Powell has been very quiet of late. Maybe he even regrets his racist vote for Obama. ... “

I have to believe that the Regretters Pool is growing at an ever increasing rate, as the same old tired speeches are “Telepromterd” by The Usurper, without anything being accomplished, except for deficit growth to feed crony Commie Community Projects.

Hey David, can you explain to us how it's possible to be an Obama boot licker, have public "man" crush on him with creepy overtones, watch him and his minions implement their statist assault on all things small government without any protest, get invited over to his place to trash real conservatives and take marching orders, and still consider yourself a conservative?

Sarah Palin is ten times the man you are; and ten times smarter as well

You are making the mistake of assuming Powell has ever had any principles that matter to him, and that he isn't the dim bulb he obviously is.

Portrait of "Smitten Brokeback Tingling Leg/Pant Cuff" Brooks/0bama lovefest ...

In the spring of 2005, New York Times columnist David Brooks arrived at then-Senator Barack Obama’s office for a chat. Brooks, a conservative writer who joined the Times in 2003 from The Weekly Standard, had never met Obama before. But, as they chewed over the finer points of Edmund Burke, it didn’t take long for the two men to click. “I don’t want to sound like I’m bragging,” Brooks recently told me, “but usually when I talk to senators, while they may know a policy area better than me, they generally don’t know political philosophy better than me. I got the sense he knew both better than me.”

That first encounter is still vivid in Brooks’s mind. “I remember distinctly an image of--we were sitting on his couches, and I was looking at his pant leg and his perfectly creased pant,” Brooks says, “and I’m thinking, a) he’s going to be president and b) he’ll be a very good president.” In the fall of 2006, two days after Obama’s The Audacity of Hope hit bookstores, Brooks published a glowing Times column. The headline was “Run, Barack, Run.”

Yet another elitist who mistakes his social pedigree for virtue and his college degree for intellect. Perhaps Mr. Brooks imagines that his preference for a gradual Progressivism makes him more thoughtful and profound than the hicks in the sticks who still stubbornly cling to God, guns and an old piece of parchment signed in Philadelphia by a group of white guys in wigs. He, of course, has gotten beyond all that, as I suspect he never tires of letting his dinner companions know.

If Brooks didn’t throw the lever for Obama may lightning strike me- now all he writes about is his incredulity that Obama ain’t the Adonis Obama told everyone he was.

What a moron- a grow man falling for that warmed-over agitprop.
