Charles Bolden, a retired United States Marines Corps major-general and former astronaut, said in an interview with al-Jazeera that Nasa was not only a space exploration agency but also an "Earth improvement agency".
Mr Bolden said: "When I became the Nasa administrator, he [Mr Obama] charged me with three things.
"One, he wanted me to help reinspire children to want to get into science and math; he wanted me to expand our international relationships; and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering."
He added: "It is a matter of trying to reach out and get the best of all worlds, if you will, and there is much to be gained by drawing in the contributions that are possible from the Muslim [nations]."

The Clintons used this same tactic and all it encouraged was two attacks on the WTC as well as other attacks and plots against the U.S. Encouraging improved self esteem and self confidence in muslims is like encouraging a tiger to eat at your back door, eventually you will need to walk out the door and the tiger will eat you for dinner.
After getting my BS in physics, I was lucky enough to work as a summer intern at NASA's Johnson center in Clear Lake for two summers. It was an exciting time. I got to work with scientist studying hyper velocity impact on various materials with a HVG apparatus. I got to survey the spacesuits of the Gemini's EVA teams to look for micro meteoroid impacts. Only one was found on a lexan visor. Needless to say NASA was focused and everyone was working to fulfill JFK's promise to get to the moon and return before the end of the 1960's. It was an exciting place to work.
Well, fast forward through graduate school (PhD Solid State Physics) and twenty years of active duty in the USAF, I went to work for a FFRDC (Federally-funded R&D Center). About three years later, I started working with NASA again. However, this was in a program office environment vice laboratory. My observations then clearly led me to believe NASA had been ossified: that is, things were done a certain way and now the legal beagles were everywhere. No innovation and please don't rock the boat.
For the last three years I've worked at another NASA center in DC. The program office where I work is actually a fairly good team balanced between the ground, spacecraft, and sensor segments for future geosynchronous weather satellite systems. However, the campus is now nearly 50 years old and PC has become the LAW of appropriate behavior.
BO came on to the scene and promptly killed Constellation and Mars missions and decided we would chum up with the Russians to fly to the ISS. The lashings continued with more PC directives to add insult to injury:

David Horowitz has answered that question thoroughly and convincingly in his Unholy Alliance. Where I felt bewildered and confused, I now feel crystal clear. Unholy Alliance is such a great book.
It begins with the leftist movements at the beginning of the 20th Century, and works its way up to the present day, exploring the anti-American attitude of these movements in detail. Horowitz shows that the enemies of the US back then are largely the same group today, operating under the same misperceptions, making the same mistakes, and pursuing the same impossible utopia.
Individual chapters are included on the Patriot Act (I was persuaded that it is a GOOD thing); the democratic flip-flop on Iraq once G.W. Bush implemented what they agreed with Clinton needed to be done; the driving components of the current anti-war movement; as well as chapters on individual personalities who are major spokespeople of the Left. Horowitz covers a lot of ground, and he covers it concisely and clearly. Unholy Alliance is richly informative without ever being boring or plodding.
This book is so illuminating that I simply cannot do justice to it here. I love people who reason so clearly that they help me get my own reasoning clear. Horowitz is just that type of person! In the terrain of mindless clichés (no-blood-for-oil, etc.), he is a breath of real fresh air."
