Back in January, when CNBC host Jim Cramer talked up the chances of “a gigantic rally” should Scott Brown win the Massachusetts Senate race, IBD’s Capital Hill poured some cold water on the idea with a post that, in retrospect, seems pretty much on target:

Which would set us up for the Democrats to raise taxes elsewhere -- exactly what they want us to do. They have spent us into oblivion, and now even the marxist-in-chief is saying the deficits need to be brought down -- which means tax increases. His plan all along. They'll be happy to reinstate select portions of the Bush tax cuts in exchange for tax increases elsewhere (on the 'rich', a.k.a. people who pay federal taxes).
No, Republicans and other patriots must call for a broader agenda: pro-growth government. Growth means jobs and more tax revenue in the long run, disproportionately higher than the short term loss in tax revenue.
Campaigning on a "growth" agenda also focuses the public on the failures of Obamanomics.
I’ve been moving towards going Galt since October of 2008. I’m there regarding spending. We went from a five bedroom house in the Seattle suburbs to a 13 acre farm in central Kentucky. One fifth the value and a fraction of the real estate taxes (a few hundred a year rather than over $500 a month). And we are big on growing our own beef and a large garden - and entertaining ourselves with walks, hunting, fishing, bike rides, etc.
Now, If I could just get laid off, I’d be fully “galt” regarding income as well. :)
Going “Galt”

The less you have to depend on the government the better. And the less you pay in taxes the less of a hold they have on you.
I’m calling my little farm, which is an entire finger of a Plateau, “galt’s Plateau”.
BTW, last week we pulled roughly 350 bales of hay off it and in the process of cutting came across three turkey nests and one live (but nervous) fawn, about a month old.
There’s plenty to eat even without the garden and beef - if necessary.
That’s a lot of hay.
You made the right choice moving away from Seattle, especially considering what you have now.
